'Sourdough bread is made by the fermentation of dough using naturally occurring lactobacilli and yeast. The lactic acid produced by the lactobacilli gives it a more sour taste and improved keeping qualities.' W*k*p*d** (because it is not GF and I don't eat it.)
And oh, dear. You've reminded me of that great film, 'Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death.'

I snack on cereal about eight o'clock at night.
In my mid-twenties I bought a book on making bread with yeast, and I tried a lot of sourdough recipes. I couldn't eat all that bread myself, so I brought some to my parents, who were good sports about eating it.

Hi CC.... Sugar Puffs, me? Really? More of a bacon and egg guy usually. Haven't been on a lot myself lately, pressures of RL and a NY resolution, a solemn oath even, to stop writing silly stuff! (Henry Letterbox is sulking about this over on Twitter)
Stay safe all.

Stay safe and well.
Real sourdough uses only naturally occurring yeast. You have to keep a starter and feed it with flour and water. People say it's like keeping a pet.
As for the avocado tree, I found one growing in my vegetable patch. The stone must have survived going through the compost bin. We planted it and took it inside over winter. Some years later, it's in my hall and is so tall it's almost touching the ceiling!

" You have to keep a starter and feed it with flour and water. People say it's like keeping a pet. "
I kept a lump of starter going for four or five months.

You will always be a *major* Vogon poet in my eyes. And you must have an awesome green thumb.
Cannibal Women??
cactuscafe Posted Jan 25, 2021
...in the Avocado Jungle of Death?? What???
I remind you of Cannibal Women? Do I worry? . Yes b-b-but I live on brandy and chocolate daydreams, socially distanced from all edible humans.
heheh. Interesting sounding film. Is it in actual film? (you never know around 'ere, creative artistes roam abroad in the lunar light bringing strange news from unusual universes.)
Ah right, so the sourdough involves the fermentation of dough using naturally occurring lactobacilli and yeast. I like these words. They are mysterious. Lactobacilli.
Ah yes, of course, you're on a GF diet. Can you get good GF in your local supermarket? I see GF products everywhere now, its good.

Oh, thanks for the links to the stories! This will be the Ultimate Reading Experience, speaking purely for mvp's.
I shall avoid all my words beginning or ending with lizard.
Lots of bakers around here then
cactuscafe Posted Jan 25, 2021
I think baking must be a very magical process. Never done it myself, but C got into baking bread and flapjacks and rye chapatis, way back when.
We sold the chapatis in our local market, made some nice fillings, including chopped wild garlic leaves that grew locally. People queued up for them, we were the coolest lunch venue in town, erm, well, not really. Our fans were were sad though when Health and Safety rules couldn't allow the market to have food stalls any more.

'Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death' is a cult film, sort of 'Heart of Darkness' with postmodernist dialogue.

It is wonderfully absurd and filmed at a university botanical garden. You'll like it.
Its the Sugar Puff guy
cactuscafe Posted Jan 25, 2021
Hullo Mister FWR Who isn't the Sugar Puffs Guy. I thought you were the Sugar Puffs for Breakfast guy. That's strange, I remember the postings vividly. Hmmm, must have been a parallel universe.
Pressures of RL, hope you're OK?
What??? NY resolution not to write silly stuff? What??? Henry not happy with this. I not happy with this 'cos you don't write silly stuff, ooops mustn't lure you out of your NY resolution ..
Is this like a change of direction, because you really got into the Hole in History project, like, the research and things? Well, let me know what direction your writing is going in ..
The Yeast Beast
cactuscafe Posted Jan 25, 2021
Hullo mvp! What?? Really? About the ceiling high avocado tree, and the Yeast Beast?
I know, you didn't say Yeast Beast, but if its like keeping a pet, that's a very interesting image to me, yeast will never be the same.

That's a very intelligent posting title.
Can I be you please? I want to talk about post modernist dialogues.
I think I would like this film. Filmed at a university botantical garden. Yes!! I think I do like this very much.
I love botanical gardens. In the 70s I started to go to the Palm House in Kew in the winter, because it was warm. I had my finest thoughts there and fell in love with everything to do with botanical gardens.

I remember Kew Gardens. I was there one Sunday in 1975.
I remember a song:
'I don't mind telling you, I took my girl to Kew,
And Emma was the darling creature's name...'
Shutting up now.
As for the resolution to be serious, that will be addressed in next week's Editorial
We need a break from Serious over on this side of the Atlantic. So we are posting Bernie memes. Bernie Sanders' mittens at the Inauguration have become famous. Now he's everywhere.

Good for Bernie for wearing mittens.

Better for him that he got in on it! He sold t-shirts with the meme, sold out, and gave 100% of the profits to Meals on Wheels in Vermont.

I love botanical gardens too. In fact, I like most gardens.
But I'm now trying to imagine Bernie Saunders in mittens and a T-shirt.

He wasn't wearing the t-shirt. A duffel coat and mittens, sensible in the weather.

Ah splendid! I remember your Lizard Brooch story now, mvp. Or, NVP. NottaVogonPoet.
'That's when I hear him speak. It's not his voice, exactly, more a sigh between the leaves, but I know what he's saying.'
I love that line so much. A sigh between the leaves ...
And that amazing graphic, which could be courtesy of Mister D or Mister Freeway.
