I'd just like to reassure you that I'm not ignoring this, it's just that at the moment I'm spending the time I would have spent subbing this entry adding links to recipe entries. smiley - tongueout

So how should I put that...
I work on one of these Entries for months. It takes me lots of time to put in what I think is the necessary information and get rid of everything unnecessary. I feel rather protective about my finished works and while I really appreciate all corrections of grammar or spelling and things like that I do not like sub editors to alter the contents of my Entries without getting my approval in advance.

I try to keep all the background information strictly to what is necessary to understand the Entry because this is about arts and not general history. I jsut want to make the connection between general historical developements and arts.

I think the information you added about Caesar and the emperors is just too much and has no place in this Entry. Also your footnote 1 about the names and dates of the Etruscan kings is just irrelevant for the context.

section about sculptures:
'The Romans regarded Greek sculptures as perfect; believing no further improvement in style was necessary there was no separate Roman style.'
please change to 'Because the Romans regarded Greek sculpture as perfect, they thought no further improvement in style was necessary. There was no separate Roman style.'

'The further development of portraits also led also to the development of equestrian statues.'
double 'also'

Otherwise I think it's good.

... oh, and there's a full stop missing right at the end of the section about the Roman Empire. (also please remove the footnote about the pope)

... in fact why don't you write a general Entry about the Romans yourself? You are well informed. Write a short overview, we don't have that yet, we only have very specialised Entries about Roman stuff.

I apologise if I was over-enthusiastic when sub-editing, I admit I do have a habit of getting carried away at times. Please accept my apology and be assured that the changes I made were intended as suggestions. Those changes have been removed now, so feel free to re-read and let me know if there is any other tweaks you would like me to make.

You didn't change the sentence in the section about statues (see post above)

You still didn't change the sentence in the first paragraph of the section about sculptures:
your sentence: 'The Romans regarded Greek sculptures as perfect; believing no further improvement in style was necessary there was no separate Roman style.'
please change to 'Because the Romans regarded Greek sculpture as perfect, they thought no further improvement in style was necessary. There was no separate Roman style.'

I've changed it again, however it is a rule of grammar that you should try to avoid starting sentences with 'Because' because 'Because' is a subordinating conjunction that joins two clauses.

So I've put 'The Romans thought no further improvement in style was necessary because they regarded Greek sculpture as perfect' which is exactly the same words as 'Because the Romans regarded Greek sculpture as perfect, they thought no further improvement in style was necessary' but rearranged to avoid having 'because' at the start. I hope that is acceptable?
