Saw you on a couple of threads lately - not to mention the HHH of course - and thought I should drop by and say hello. Ilike doing that.
And I Like you PS... though I'm afraid about half the authors you mentioned aren't familiar to me (besides Douglas Adams of course, and Terry Pratchett and J.R.R. Tolkien, and actually Astrid Lindgren too, but that's all really ). What sort of books do all the others write?

Hi, nice of you to drop by
Have a cup of or and sit down. Feel at home. Put your feet up if you like
Some of the authors on my list that you don't know are danish and I'm quite sure that at least Knud Holten isn't translated into other languages... A shame, he writes wonderfully.
Now, Anne McCaffrey is actually quite a famous writer...probably most known for her "pern" series...a series that contains close to 30 books now. Dragons play a huge role in these books. A must for dragon-lovers She does tend to be a bit Disney-ish concerning endings... (_must_ have a happy ending!)
McCaffrey has also written several other series and "single" books... She is one of those that just spit them out almost faster than you can read them.
Isabel Allende is amazing, she has the most beautiful language, even when she describes horrible poverty or meaningless cruelty. Not that that is the main theme of her books, she actually describes the world in a way that makes you see wonders everywhere, and makes you want to pack your stuff and go exploring the universe...
Titles could be: "The House of Spirits" (made into a movie with Meryl Streep, Jeremy Irons, Antonio Banderas and more. Great actors, but the movie does NOT do justice to the book, at ALL!)
"Eva Luna" and "Stories told by Eva Luna" (or something like that I translated that from the danish title... the original title is : "Cuentos de Eva Luna".
Basically what I like about the authors that I have put on my list so far is, that they use the language in a special way, if you know Adams, Pratchett and Tolkien, you might have an idea of what I mean
What kind of books are your favourites?

for me I think. I've had about three hours of sleep tonight.
What books I like? Oh, that keeps changing... though in general, I'm not that much into SciFi/fantasy as you seem to be. I'm in the middle of Ulysses now - in Hebrew translation as I don't think I can handle the original just yet - it's absolutely brilliant but I had to put it aside to do some reading for Uni. In general, I can say that the one genre I absolutely _don't_ like is the sticky-tacky-shapeless-romantic-novels sort of thing. I'll read pretty much everything else.
Are you into poetry at all? Dylan Thomas has an amazing use of the language, as does TS Eliot, from the little I've read of the two. I'm slowly discovering poetry, and I love it.
