I noticed your entry on the DNA page, thought you might like to know when I was a scot living in Norway I made the english department have hhg as a set text, ie, compulsory reading!

Excellent!
When and where was this?
Hello
Mrs V Posted May 14, 2001
I was an excange student there in 1996, and I went back to college in 1999, so I can get by in Norwegian, badly. It was partly the fault of my friend kamilla, who was ahuge hitchhikers fan too. I was much called upon to explain things like, the point of tea!
Love and Huggles (which I think everyone needs at the mo)

Nearly! it's "videregående"!
Well, I'm impressed! Never thought it'd be possible to make Norwegian schools change their old ways...
Bergen is a lovely city, don't you think?
Hello
Mrs V Posted May 14, 2001
m, I've always loved it there, espcially when I lived in the halls of residence next to ulriksbanen, bugger of a hill to walk up, but really great views once you got there! Knew I'd spelt that wrong, but I was in Foerde, and those nynorsk speakers just tried to set out to confuse me! The family I lived with went round labeling everything in the house so that I could learn the word for it, but in nynorsk, so I thought window was vinduauge and bizzare things like that!

(feels bad about that, am I allowed to laugh at a time like this? Surely, I must be, after all, humor _was_ DNAs legacy, right?)
Yeah, well, here on Østlandet we call nynorsk "spy-norsk"...
Hello
Mrs V Posted May 15, 2001
I'm sorry, my last post got removed, did it have one too many norwegian words in it? I thought I had explained it quite well by writing the english next too it too.
I'm really quite p****d of at that!

I can understand! That doesn't make any sense at all! I mean, if they were to remove that posting, they should remove the entire conversation... (please, Mr/Ms/Mrs Moderator, don't do that...)
A thought just crossed my mind... It was the moderation you were p****d at, not me referring to nynorsk as "spy-norsk"...?
Hello
Mrs V Posted May 15, 2001
Yes, the moderation. I quite agree if anyone in my class had wanted to talk about me they could have managed it quite well in Spy Norwegian!
I really want to write something REALLY offensive about the moderators at the minute, so I'm going to log off before I launch into a tirade, and I can swear in a lot of languages. Though english is always the best.

Actually, yes... When I swear I use a good deal of English, even though I'm talking Norwegian or Danish. Not that swear particularly much... So, you cooled off now...

I dunno, I haven't read the reply to the post I put on the moderators page!

Sorry to intrude... but may I say that, as a linguist, Norwegian IS quite interesting. Jeg kanne ikke snakke god norsk (I can't speak good Norwegian) but it's certainly been fun trying.
