Semolina is one of those foods that you can't be neutral about. You either love it or hate it - like Bovril.

Bovrilsmiley - yuk (sorry).

Mum was very tired today and her speech was slurred. She still hadn't toileted so was put on a catheter. More tests tomorrowsmiley - erm but she was saying she's had enough and wants to go. I've just had the packed lunch I took to hospital this morning and a hot smiley - tea

GB, if she is saying that GB then be thankful. 'There is a time ...' goes the poem and maybe this is hers.

I said it before and say it again, don't feel guilty. You are only human, not Superwoman, and if a home can't manage her then she is better where she is. I have been there more times than I care to remember with people close to me.

You have been a brilliant daughter, she couldn't have asked for better, so look after yourself.

The catheter may well help. A close relative got very confused recently - we even thought he had a stroke - just because he didn't manage to pee. But recovered within a day, once the urine was let out.

Another long day waiting for doctor to turn up. There's no longer a drip going in her but she's doubly incontinent. Speech still slurred and she slept for about half the time on and off. Still complaining of right leg hurting, it now matches the original purple leg she's had for 4 years. Tests tomorrow for thrombosis.

Mum's INR is 9, which is way too thin. In fact the smiley - doctor who got her result came dashing in to check she wasn't bleeding. Her right leg has been x-rayed - result tomorrow.

I bathed her this morning. My sister and I both agreed that it's like we are suddenly the parents of a (big) little girl.

Yikes! I thought a *normal* INR figure was 1.0 to 1.5, or about double those numbers for someone on Warfarin.

ITIWBS

I'm off in a few minutes to see my Mom at a convalescent care facility in town, about thirty miles away.

She's had two emergency hospitalizations in the last month, the second after she passed out sitting up in the reception room at her Doctor's office.

They were unable to find her pulse or get her BP, even though she was somewhat responsive, if not altogether lucid, even with the advanced diagnostic machines at the hospital.

The've been giving oxygen and breathing machine support at the hospital and convalescent care facility and we're going to get her her own home breathing machine as soon as possible after she's released.

This has been taking up nearly all my time over the past month.

My heartfelt commiseration!

Your figures are correct, h5. Mum's INR should be between 2-3, but it hasn't been in that range for some weeks, which is why I was taking her for weekly bloodtests and they were varying her Warfarin tablet dose.

My sister's rung with the x-ray resuly, there *is* fluid on her knee but they don't know if it's fluid or blood. They daren't tap it until they have her blood less thinsmiley - headhurts

Last Wed at my astronomy club I volunteered to help with the general public at tonight's Stargazing Live tie-in, haha, how God must have laughed at that plan. Still, I can show my face and hope no-one needs me or they have more support than offered last week...smiley - yawn

I did leave a message for the local Vicar, and he's left a message on my answering machine that he'll be calling to visit Mum tomorrow. She'll enjoy that, especially if he takes the sacramental bread and wine.

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

Very best wishes, smiley - hug and smiley - love to both you and your Sister, and positive thoughts for your Mum.
If it helps, visiting is better than medicine in some cases. I travelled from Chelsea to Bedford General daily when my Grandmother was in hospital. I was the nearest after my Mum's Brother, who visited when she could.
She rallied because of that, according to the Medics.
