Challenge and criticism are a vital part of the scientific process, answering criticisms improves the quality of the results and improves probability that the conclusions are correct, just so long as the challenges and criticisms are well founded and well reasoned and the response to them are.
Always important to remain as courteous and receptive as possible, without relaxing ones' standards of critical thinking.
