Yes they are that fast.

I went out at 5am and 6am and was rewarded with a stunning skyscape, glorious Orion, Jupiter showing off 4 moons all in a line, almost-full Venus, the brightest object next to the 3rd-quarter moon. Quite a terminator on show there. No aurorae though, but not disappointed.

Rather muted and subdued, looks rather like the auroral display I could see from Carson City, Nevada, 1968.

Though unusually far south for auroral displays, they're often reported in especially North Dakota.
