There are two types of h2g2 members: those who sign on and then vanish, never to embellish their pages and never to be heard from again, and those who are utterly addicted. There is no middle ground. smiley - smiley

I share your addiction, but cannot give you any help. smiley - smiley When I was at school, I muddled through somehow without ruining my grades by spending to much time here, but now that it's summer and I'm on break, I have nothing to keep me from being here and come all the time! (I think that emphatically qualifies as a run-on sentence, don't you?)

Thanks for being the first to post to my page, SilverSolstice! I notice you're a sub-editor, that's cool!

I'm still addicted, but as yet, no guide entries. I have lots of ideas, but it's a question of finding time to put them into words. I consider myself fairly articulate, but I'm probably also a bit choosy about submitting stuff that I'm not quite happy with, I'm my own worst enemy really.. A lot of the stuff I wanted to make entries out of, I've already posted as replies in the forums (or is it fora?), strangely enough smiley - smiley

Any advice on good ways to get started writing entries?

I'm not the person to ask; all the beautiful entries you see on my page were those written by other people that I subbed...I have exactly three entries that I have written myself: a selection of my poems, a list of all the books I have read from January 1 of this year, and a half-hearted attempt at an entry on The Phantom of the Opera that I started and abandoned within my first month here! I always used the excuse that I was too busy with school to write anything, but now that it's summer, that's no longer valid...I have a few ideas too, though. It's probably just a matter of just sitting down and actually doing it. Rather like subbing entries, come to think of it! smiley - smiley

I'm really picky about my own writing too. I think I just like correcting other paople better than I do creating my own stuff. If you think subbing is cool, you could volunteer to be one when they start recruiting again. I actually think you can leave a messge on somebody's page now, but I'm not sure whose. I can check. I'm ample proof that you don't have to have really smashing Guide Entries to qualify! smiley - smiley

Seems a lot easier than I realised. Expect some articles soon - hey, I might even follow your example and put some poems on - though mine would look a bit lame after reading yours, I particularly liked 'Broken Skin' - very vivid.

"Broken Skin", huh - that's the one most people hate, because it's so gross! It came about one day when I was eating a chicken leg, and it suddenly occurred to me that the leg I was eating was not all that different from a human hand, and I'd been pondering death a lot lately, how a tiny bit of severed tissue could lead to it, and that that didn't seem to quite make sense - and thus it was born. Quite un-typical of my usual writing style, actually. I encourage you to put up your writings. Let me know when you do; I'll come read them.

Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor

I am now suffering from an incurable condition, I looked for a thread to find fellow sufferers and found the exact same one!
Are you two the only other afflicted ones, or is it that the others just don't know about it?
Anyway, I have added this forum to my list of threads, and hopefully some of the others {as I know there are lots}, will see it & post.
{sigh} back to RL. {even bigger sigh as she looks wistfully back at her pc} smiley - winkeye
