Hi Maedb!

Is that a nickname? If not, is it Gaelic, and pronounced "mave" (asks he, guessing)? I hope you're surviving your home imprisonment (child-rearing!) OK. It can be very difficult when they're young, and you never seem to get any input from someone who can do more than gurgle!

Are you still happy to be in the city instead of the country? I live on the edge of a large town (about 250,000 people), with the countryside only a few miles away. I like having access to both.

I'll leave it here for now, in case you don't bother with your h2g2 login any more. smiley - smiley

Ooops! I replied to Pharie (I think), when I meant to send a message to KeltGrrl (Maedb). Who am I writing to? Who am I? Help! smiley - winkeye

Phaerie

You got the right person. I needed a change from KeltGrrl and while reading a Brian Froud book, came across the spelling Phaerie adn really liked it. Sorry to confuse you.

Yes the *imprisonments* of being a stay at home mom...I think I have just about reached my limit....I need out for a bit...and a new do to cover my bald spot from pulling out my hair. Just kidding.

City life...Ineed a break from that too...I can't wait to go to Wyoming to visit my parents....it will be a much needed and welcomed break. smiley - smiley

Thanks for stopping by...I was beginning to think about giving up...it just seems whenever I make a post the conversation stops and I feel like I was the person who walked into the party that smelled real bad and everyone left.

This is my only *social* interaction..sad huh?

Thanks again for stopping by.

Yes, it was the spelling of your nickname that hooked me - I *had* to communicate with someone called Phaerie! At first, I didn't even realise that you had seen and commented on my 'Geek Tragedy'. I've confused myself as to how "Phaerie" came to my attention, but it isn't important, so...

My wife stayed at home for the first few years of our marriage. Sadly, it soon became impossible, and she had to get a job, like most married women in this country (England). Still, she was always aware of the brain-death that lies in wait for the mother who concentrates to exclusively on her children. You're obviously aware of this too. smiley - smiley

When I mention being on the edge of the countryside, I meant a very civilised, accessible countryside. Isn't Wyoming full of huge amounts of very little, bounded by scrub land and desert? smiley - winkeye Just kidding. It's *real* country, though, isn't it?

>>I was beginning to think about giving up...<<

Well don't! That's just the frustrations of being a housewife showing through. Fight it! smiley - winkeye

>>...it just seems whenever I make a post the conversation stops and I feel like I was the person who walked into the party that smelled real bad and everyone left.<<

No, what you describe is paranoia - not the same thing at all. smiley - winkeye

>>This is my only *social* interaction..sad huh?<<

Well, people say so. But then people despise geeks, and this is where we started, right? Sleepers (i.e. those who neither know nor care what their brains are for) think that social interaction is about getting drunk, and maybe getting into a fight or something. I think it's about communicating, and we can do this just fine over the net. So, it may be your *only* social interaction, but how limiting is it really? I suppose it depends what other forms of interaction you would enjoy if you had the opportunity, doesn't it?

Who is this Brian Froud, who invented your name? What does he write about? I'm glad you changed from KeltGrrl; Phaerie is far superior.

Gotta go. Work to do. Talk again soon?

Ahah! You are ZenMondo's 'significant other'. smiley - winkeye Now I remember where I first saw "Phaerie" - it was a comment you made on ZenMondo's treatise on pagans. From ZenMondo's home page it looks like you're both practicising pagans. Is that so? Interesting. Bye for now.

I jsut crave the interaction from a human, who is not my husband. I can't drive and that makes it even harder to meet people.

Brian Froud is and artist, lives in England. He draws Faeries, the movie Labrynth is based on his art, he had much to do with I believe. His wife Wendy Froud, designed the characters for Dark Crystal. Brian, also wrote a book called Lady Cottingham's Pressed Faerie Book. One of my favorite.

I love to play games to try to keep my mind about me. I ask to play Scrabble almost everynight. We desperately need a new game. I almost always loose, but I learn alot adn I play better each and everytime.

So, how did your wife manage to stay sane? I would be open to any hints or suggestions smiley - smiley

Yes I am Zen's wife, and we are a practice pagan household. We involve our son in everythign we do. We are not wiccan, but you have prolly gathered that.

Wyoming, yes Wyoming is pretty sparse. The area I am from isn't the desert scrub land most people know about. Sheridan, is a beautiful town, in a valley surrounded by grassland, and 20 miles from the mountains, the first edge of the Rockies you come to when heading west.

I did a search on Wyoming and saw an edited entry for Wyoming and was shocked and dismayed at the horrible portrayal it gave, absolutly derogetory ( I don't spell so well) I am in the midst of writing a good entry for Wyoming. I'll get it posted soon.

>> I just crave interaction with a human who is not my husband.<<

Hey, I qualify! smiley - smiley I don't think we can ever meet in the flesh (too much distance), but feel free to email me whenever you like.

My wife learned to drive only two years ago. It was hard work, but she's never regretted it. Perhaps you should learn?

I will look out for Brian Froud's books. I enjoyed Labyrinth'; I don't remember 'Dark Crystal'. Amazon tell me the the pressed faerie book smiley - smiley was written with Terry Jones, a member of the Monty Python team, if I'm not mistaken.

As well as Scrabble, I enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons (even though everyone else in the universe gave up playing some time ago). The role-playing is challenging, and solving the 'story' of each dungeon is much harder than you'd think. I also write articles that are never published. smiley - sadface Perhaps I'll move one or two of them to this forum (h2g2 that is).

> So, how did your wife manage to stay sane?<<

Who says she did? smiley - winkeye She just tried hard not to get sucked in to the mindset that says "I can talk/think/breathe *only* my children (and those of my friends who are also mothers of young children)." Children are a joy, but they must never be allowed to overwhelm your own existence. They're just a *part* of your world, albeit an important one.

>> Yes I am Zen's wife, and we are a practicing pagan household. We involve our son in everything we do. We are not wiccan, but you have probably gathered that.<<

As you (or at least Zen) will know, I have posted some questions on paganism elsewhere ("outcasts"). I'm pretty ignorant about it really, but I'm interested to learn more, if you have the time to pass the knowledge on?

Is your son's involvement (even though he's still very young) important to your beliefs?

I don't know enough about wicca to distinguish between it and other pagan beliefs.

What god(s) do you revere (or is that a stupid question)?

If this is too personal, just ignore my questions, or take it off this public forum if you prefer (my email is [email protected]).

We'll talk again soon, I hope?

Yes you do qualify, smiley - smiley and don't ever say never... we someday hope to take a honeymoon, and want to go to Europe with a stop over in Ireland and England, so ya never know.

>My wife learned to drive only two years ago. It was hard work, but she's never regretted it. Perhaps you should learn?

Actually I do know how to drive, I was licensed when I was 14, but sadly I was declared legally blind in April, but haven't driven in almost two years because I didn't feel comfortable because I couldn't see.

The pressed Faerie book was done with Terry Jones. I really enjoy Monty Python, I almost bought *The Meaning of Life* on video lastnight. We bought Dark Crystal and Labyrinth I forgot just how much I enjoy them. Actually my favorite British Comedies are *Red Dwarf* and *Are You Being Served* they don't show them out here and I miss them especially *Red Dwarf*.

I used to play role playing games, I mostly played GURPS and the White Wolf series, my favorite being the Werewolfs oh and mages. It has been a long time since I have, I enjoyed making characters I think the best.

I try so very hard at not making Conor the center of my existance, he is a major part, but I am so afraid of loosing myself in becoming "Conor's Mom" rather than "Maedb, who just so happens to have a son" I try hard at not letting him be the topic of conversation everytime I open my mouth. smiley - smiley

It is very important for us to involve Conor in our beliefs, even at a young age. It is the same reason that the Christan people take their children to church. We want him to be brought up with the beliefs. We don't do elaborate ceremonies, prolly the most elaborate is making a plate to set at the altar for our ancestors. It is quite odd, that the food we put there never molds.

We revere Gods of the Celtic Patheon, most importantly, Brighid, Morrigan, Lugh, and Manannan Mac Lir. It is not to personal, I like to inform people if they are willing to listen and hopefully will learn. smiley - smiley

My email is [email protected] you too can feel free to use it at anytime.

Take care new friend smiley - smiley

>>Yes you do qualify<<

Oh good!

>>...don't ever say never... we someday hope to take a honeymoon, and want to go to Europe with a stop over in Ireland and England, so ya never know.<<

How about "probably never"? smiley - winkeye

>>...sadly I was declared legally blind in April, but haven't driven in almost two years because I didn't feel comfortable because I couldn't see. <<

Fair enough. Sorry. smiley - sadface

>>I really enjoy Monty Python<<

Me too, although it must be twenty years since I lasted watched one!

>>Actually my favorite British Comedies are *Red Dwarf* and *Are You Being Served*<<

I'm afraid I never got into Red Dwarf (although many of my friends did). I can't *stand* "Are you being served"! The stereotypes are *very* two-dimensional, but that's probably not as obvious from your side of the Pond. smiley - winkeye

>>I used to play role playing games ... I enjoyed making characters I think the best.<<

Yes: making and then playing (i.e. developing) the characters is what it's all about, IMO.

>>...I am so afraid of loosing myself in becoming "Conor's Mom" rather than "Maedb, who just so happens to have a son"<<

Then you'll be fine. smiley - smiley

>>It is very important for us to involve Conor in our beliefs, even at a young age. It is the same reason that the Christan people take their children to church.<<

Ah yes. Of course that's important.

>>We don't do elaborate ceremonies, prolly the most elaborate is making a plate to set at the altar for our ancestors. It is quite odd, that the food we put there never molds. <<

Yes, that is unusual...

>>We revere Gods of the Celtic Patheon, most importantly, Brighid, Morrigan, Lugh, and Manannan Mac Lir. It is not to personal, I like to inform people if they are willing to listen.<<

Wow! These are old friends! I've never really considered them as being to be worshipped (or substitute your own favourite term), but I know and love them since I first read of them. I'm not too familiar with Brigit or Manannan Mac Lir (although I know their names), but Lugh of the Silver Hand and the Morrigan (the Celtic Kali?) are well-known to me.

I have to be careful here, because my knowledge is drawn from old legends *and* from out-and-out fiction. Some of what I 'know' will have been invented for the purposes of story-telling. Do you know of Dianecht, the God of Healing? The Dagda, father of the Celtic Gods, IIRC?

I'm willing to listen, and would like to hear more, here or by email, as you wish.

>>Take care new friend <<

You too. Or should I say you two (plus Conor!)? smiley - winkeye

P.S. Tell Zen to reply to my "outcasts" post about pagans. I think there's much I've misunderstood, and I'm hoping he'll straighten things out for me.

I read you "Outcasts" post yesterday, and immediately turned around and told him that he "MUST" reply..so done!

The Dagda, yes we know him as well, he actually looks after Conor we believe as well as Brighid. When Conor was born, he would not eat, he barely ate for four days, we were very concerned, and the Dr. and nurses were as well, but since he hadn't lost to much weight they let us take him home. Upon coming home, we poured a pint of Guinness gave Conor a drop in the name of the Dagda, and poured the rest to him. Later that evening, Conor ate 6 ounces..which for him was grand because we were lucky if he would eat 2! He has haad a healty appetite since.

*Are You Being Served* was a great show, because after a long hard day at work, (I was working retail at the time...grocery) I could walk in turn it on, turn my brain off, and just have a good laugh.

Two years ago, on Lughnasa, Zen had quite an interesting how should I say it, interaction with Lugh. I will have him tell you it.

I don't like the word worship, I prefer the word honor. I think that the Gods (well the ones we interact with anyway) prefer that as well. We give things in their names, or do things in their names. We don't do it on a daily basis. We are not their slaves. They do things for us, we do things for them. More of a mutual agreement. They have more important things to do than to bother with us on a daily basis. I am rambling on because of the pain meds, I grabbed the wrong bottle, I grabbed teh Tylenol with Codine, instead of the ibuprofin. So please forgive me, I hope at least I would be intertaining. smiley - smiley

So what do you do at your job?
How many children do you have?
etc. feel free to email with this info if you want.
Talk to you later.

Yes my back is much better, I can actually sit in the chair that is at the computer now!

We took Conor for his one year shots and TB test today, he is growing so big! He did so good he hardly cried.

I haven't read anything else yet, I am gonna pop over to the outcasts posts and see what's going on there.
