i am jack's introduction
i am fat. not just the normal "oh no, i have 10 pounds to lose," or "yeah, the doctor says i need to take off 30 pounds." i am over 500 pounds. it is a staggering number that i am unable to truthfully come to terms with. i have been overweight all of my life, and at 29, i am lucky that i have not suffered more greatly due to illness. i am stared at whereever i go, and i understand why.
i am a student. lifelong. went to college for 5 and 1/2 years and walked away with a degree in psychology. not that i had any interest in the subject, it was just the easiest degree to get. i needed to have that diploma so that I could get a job. in a field that i wasn't really interested in. i was a wonderful therapist, mostly because i love to listen to people who are normally ignored. i worked with people with schizophrenia, and truly listened. i would have loved to do this for the rest of my life, but a) there's no money in it [not even enough to move out of my parents house] and b) the paperwork is atrocious.
so is stopped. i went back to school to follow my true passion. Science. i have no idea what i want to do in the field, just that it is the only thing i've ever really cared about. i worked in a lab for a few years, published a peper or 2, but never understood what i was doing. so now i want to go back and rectify this situation. i am currently enrolled at saint joseph's unversity in philadelphia, pennsylvania.
