Testing my wings
I have always wanted to write. I have always loved writing. I spent my childhood with a torch and my notebook beneath my covers at night, so Mum and Dad wouldn't know I was still awake, inventing fantastic, meandering tales with a beautiful heroine and a handsome hero. As I got older, my fear began to grow - what if it wasn't good enough? What if people laughed at my efforts? What would people think? All of my teenage insecurities led me to an adulthood where writing was a distant dream. I was faced by a glass wall of terror, and barely wrote at all.
I have recently been inspired to begin scaling that wall. Although, studying for my MA, academic writing is second nature and a massive part of my life, I am itching to take the leap of faith and get over the fear. I, like most people, feel there is a novel in me, somewhere. I, like most people, wonder how on earth I am going to get it out. I, like most people, just need to begin. So that is what I am doing here, hoping and knowing that being surrounded by like minded people will encourage me to stretch my wings and tackle the wall. The world looks so lovely on the other side. I just need to get there.
