Interesting selection. Reminds me of some of the critical commentaries on Herman Hesse's "Magister Ludi" on the point that the humor of it isn't completely intelligible unless one has a grounding in both Machist low-level biophysical psychology and Freudian high-level analysis. Having read the book and then studied some of Ernst Mach's psychological articles, the sense of the title in the original German: "Der Glasperlenspiel", immediately pops into to focus. There is an aspect of the pathetic in the point that so many of his readers wrote fan letters in which they claimed to have invented the glass bead game for themselves.

It wasn't for nothing that this 25th Century setting science fiction novel won a Nobel prize in literature.

Myself, I am not intuitively brilliant on such issues. Instead I am patient and dogged.smiley - ok
