Maybe if I don't edit it for long enough, it'll come back into fashion and my kids'll think it's cool. (What kids? Oh yeah. None.)

Words, Words, Words

"There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all." -- Oscar Wilde

Wild Geese

You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves.
Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.
Meanwhile the world goes on.
Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain
are moving across the landscapes,
over the prairies and the deep trees,
the mountains and the rivers.
Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clear blue air,
are heading home again.
Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,
the world offers itself to your imagination,
calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting--
over and over announcing your place
in the family of things.

~Mary Oliver

My friend Alice, a PHENOMENAL poet I met at college, recited this to our class in early December, 2004. It brought tears to my eyes, though I didn't cry: she had prefaced the poem with "No crying at school." She explained that someone she had known had passed away, and his family wanted a poem to read at the service... she shared with them this one.
As for Mary Oliver, she is the author of "The Poetry Handbook", which I am now reading. There is much more to learn about her, a living poet... BLESS.

I'm wordy. And I have to create...

"Shakespeare had a sister; but do not look for her in Sir Sidney Lee's life of the poet. She died young-- alas, she never wrote a word. She lies buried where the omnibuses now stop, opposite the Elephant and Castle. Now my belief is that this poet who never wrote a word and was buried at the crossroads still lives. She lives in you and in me, and in many other women who are not here... But she lives; for great poets do not die; they are continuing presences; they need only the opportunity to walk among us in the flesh. This opportunity, as I think, it is now coming within your power to give her. For my belief is... if we have the habit of freedom and

THE COURAGE TO WRITE EXACTLY WHAT WE THINK

; if we escape a little from the common sitting-room and see human beings not always in the relation to each other but in relation to reality; and the sky, too, and the trees or whatever it may be in themselves... then the opportunity will come and the dead poet who was Shakespeare's sister will put on the body which she has so often laid down... I maintain that she would come if we worked for her, and that so to work, even in povery and obscurity, is worth while." --Virginia Woolf, "A Room of One's Own". If only we were so brave for Shakespeare's sister...

I appreciate Chocolate milk and Cheesecake!

"In order to have great poets, there must be great audiences."--Walt Whitman

The POST
"Read all about it!!!"

You can do plenty of stupid but fun things on h2g2...

I heard in 2003 that I had the record for most postings in the history of h2g2. This could only happen when you live at home and your parents do your laundry and a lot of the cooking... Ummm... thanks, Mom and Dad...

"The desires of the heart are as crooked as corkscrews
Not to be born is the best for man
The second best is a formal order
The dance's pattern, dance while you can.
Dance, dance, for the figure is easy
The tune is catching and will not stop
Dance till the stars come down with the rafters
Dance, dance, dance till you drop."

--W. H. Auden, September 1936
Ah... a man who appreciates the art of dance... A poem perfect for the Muse of Song and Dance...

Dude!!! This is the COOLEST THING IN THE WORLD, and my friend and muse, Ottox found it for me!!! Thank you, Ottox!!!
