Interesting Entry, yes - describes 'intriguing bookends' indeed smiley - ok

"Considering Scott is possibly Scotland's greatest ever author and this was only Burroughs' second work, this comparison seems unfair."

smiley - ok It is a neat plot device to invent fictional children who can have the adventure in a roughly historical setting smiley - ok

The timeline in the introductory paragraphs for I am a Barbarian moves around a bit - I wondered if "By the late 1930s..." could maybe be higher up, so that the 1940s follow on from that.

"Attica, a slave of Cæsonia, leads both Numerius and Brittanicus on them and claims she loves them both."

"Cæsonia"?

Poignant ending...

Thanks for the comments – I've moved a paragraph up higher and added a footnote on Cæsaonia so hopefully it is all much clearer.

Can I just mention that Sir Walter Scott was a genius. Fact. The master of the historical novel, a literary form he perfected and no-one has been able to rival, he was also a campaigner for the conservation of historic buildings, rediscovered Scotland's crown jewels and also ensured Scottish banks were able to continue printing their own banknotessmiley - 2cents.

Burroughs isn't in the same sport, yet alone the same league.

smiley - ok

Just reading this again I had a few more questions:

smiley - moon "Under the Moons of Mars, better known as A Princess of Mars" - was it that it was first published as Under the Moons of Mars and then later as A Princess of Mars?

smiley - mod You mention twice that Metcalfe rejected The Outlaw of Torn at first so that section could perhaps be tweaked to tighten it up a bit.

I'm not sure I understand the quote - beforehand Burroughs underestimated the appeal of Tarzan?

smiley - orib So the dedication was the key to the novel being published, or were there other factors involved?

"As with many of Burroughs' tales the story, though fictional, is presented as being real events, that have been suppressed by a Plantagenet king of England." - I think that needs a full stop after 'events' so the second bit can be in a new sentence.

I'm not sure I understand the paragraph about the minor distractions - despite its period setting it is not written in Latin?

The paragraph about the 'racy scenes' is well done smiley - ok

This is looking good smiley - ok

Lots of good questions and points there, I happily to agree with all of them so I've made lots of minor changes in all the areas you've highlighted. I don't think it is worth me listing all the minor tweaks as the changes in the entry speak for themselves.smiley - ok
