My favourite colour is green, but I'm glad that's not the colour of my skin smiley - aliensmile

I love this! smiley - biggrin I wish we knew more about the green children.

I have only one question, and I'm not sure if you can answer it. How could Richard Barre have married if he was a clergyman in the 12th Century? smiley - bigeyes I know it's a murky subject, but it made me curious.

You are very welcome, the rules were apparently a little flexible in those days.

Perhaps an explanation can be added in the text or footnote smiley - ok

This is interesting smiley - smiley and it's encouraging that the children were cared for, rather than being driven away.smiley - smiley

I suppose that at this time, there were still extensive forests, where it would have been possible for small communities to live without much contact with outsiders.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

This is great.... given how enclosed many villages still are to this day, in my home county of Suffolk, one can only imaggine how much moreso that was the case, that long ago......

I've a theory.... given the children did not speak english, and this was in Suffolk.... they might have just een from Norfolk, and us good Suffolk folk can't understand such a forign acent as Norfolk smiley - laughsmiley - sillysmiley - weird

thanks for writing this was really great to read a bit of anchient myth from my own kind of area of the country that I'd never come across before smiley - coolsmiley - magic

You can call me TC

Ditto from me. Lived in Suffolk all my school time and never heard of this. I feel I ought to dig something up about Cleethorpes to surprise you with!

Thanks everyone. I am glad this has been of some interest. I have added a footnote about celibacy and your link, Bobsmiley - cheers

smiley - tardisI am still reeling from the shock of the new Doctor Who being a female actor. Not for the same reasons of the lowlifes on social media, but because when I wrote this up, I finished it off with a little tribute to the show and its writers. If you'll remember reading it, I have not changed what I wrote a few weeks ago, and I'm quite proud of that (and how I wish I'd bet on a female taking ownership the Tardis key)

I've sometimes thought of writing the story of the Piltdown Man, which is associated with the Sussex village of that name.

Not a legend, but a scientific hoax.smiley - winkeye

smiley - offtopic I saw an episode of Horrible Histories while I was on holiday (because the children's channel with adverts that I usually watch wasn't available in the hotel smiley - blush). Very cleverly done, but I think I prefer the books myself.

I enjoyed this Entry - an interesting legend vividly written up smiley - ok
