This is for FWR, who will no doubt be dying to draw a horsie,

Bluebottle, who can laugh because this is longer than usual and has lots of Pittsburgh links,

Florida Sailor, who is fond of the Confederacy, and

Malabarista, who owns a horse.

The rest of you (like Galaxy Babe) should read it for the jokes.

Florida Sailor - Now with Added House

Another interesting Entry. I did, of course, have a little knowledge about 'Little Sorrel' but I have learned a great deal more from your research. Thank you!

In the interest of keeping things fair and balanced I suggest you include a mention of one more horse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cincinnati_(horse)

This is a very interesting entry, and an enjoyable read, well done.

Is the beginning of horses for famous leaders series of entries, I hope so the subject has plenty of scope, from Bucephalus to Copenhagen

That's a great idea, Bob! Hey, you horse lovers out there, who wants what famous horse? There's a whole stableful!

We already have a few that I mentioned in despatches, but there are so many others...smiley - biggrin We could call it 'Great Leaders and Their Horses' or suchlike, and add in the ones we already have...

The joke, of course, being that I *don't* ride like General Grant. Or even like Stonewall Jackson. I ride like a person terrified of horses...'Please don't go fast, please don't go fast, I'll fall off...where's the brake on this thing?'

"'The general charged ahead on Fancy,' didn't really have that martial ring" smiley - laughsmiley - ok

I rode like a person terrified of horses, too, but managed to do what I had to when I was 5 and gave it up after that... The worst was whenever the horse put his head down to eat thistles - I was sure I would slide off down his neck smiley - yikessmiley - pony but I somehow managed to hang on, thankfully.
