I haven't watched it, but I'm a bit of a K-9 fan - my very first woodwork project at home was making K-9 out of a small chunk of pine smiley - biggrin

"She allows the Professor, who is assisted by 15-year-old Darius, to head the 'K-9 Unit'" - who is "She" here?

I like the review smiley - ok

Gnomon - time to move on

Hi Bluebottle.

You're right, I haven't seen this series.

It might be worth saying "a talking robotic dog" in the first sentence.

I find the section with the header K-9 confusing.

I presume since K-9 was Professor Marius's pet, that he was already with Professor Marius when the Doctor arrived. You say the story was re-written to allow him to accompany the Doctor into the next episode. Which story was rewritten? Did this happen after the episode with Dr Marius was aired? Or do you just mean that the episode ended with K-9 accompanying the Doctor.

When you talk about K-9 Marks I, II, III etcs, are these just different models 'acting' as the same role, or are we talking different roles? Is the K-9 Mark II supposed to be a different robot from K-9 Mark I in the story?

If it's different, where did he come from? You say he appeared. Did they just find the robot, or did the Doctor make him?

You say in series 17 he was voiced by David Brierley although John Leeson returned to the role for series 18. But this is the first time you've mentioned that K-9 can talk, and you haven't mentioned John Leeson before. Did he by any chance voice K-9 in series 15 and 16?

" halfway through K-9 and Romana leave the TARDIS" -- this is tacked on to the end of the previous sentence, joined with a comma. Did you intend to say "halfway through which ..."

"After exploding in order to save Starkey, Jorjie, Darius and the Professor " - since the only Professor you've mentioned so far is Professor Marius, I assumed this was him. Then I discovered that Starkey and Jorjie were in 21st Century didn't seem to make sense. Say "Professor Gryffen" here to avoid this confusion.

"His friend Jorjie Turner also abhors the Department, even though her mother June Turner works for the Department as the Head of Alien Activity. She allows "

-- since the first sentence is about Jorjie, it is reasonable to assume that the "She" in the second sentence is also Jorjie. But apparently not... Change "She allows" to "June allows".

You say CCPC stands for Cybernetic Civic Pacification. What does the other C stand for?

"The Department has acquired a broken alien space/time portal called the Space-Time Manipulator and set Professor Gryffen the task to fix it. "

-- You've a mixture of tenses in this "has acquired" and "set". I suggest changing "has acquired" to "acquired".

most of which with Dave Martin --> most of them with Dave Martin

"Despite the failure of the BBC-produced K-9 and Company in 1981, as Baker owned the rights to the character, since the mid-1990s he repeatedly tried to create a spin-off series based on the dog. "

-- this is very cumbersome. I suggest you reword it as:

"Despite the failure of the BBC-produced K-9 and Company in 1981, Baker tried repeatedly from the mid-90s onwards to create a spin-off series based on the dog, as he owned the rights to the character."

"By predominantly having single-episode stories means that they"
-->
The predominantly single-episode stories mean that they

before needing to resolve before the end credits rolled -->
before needing to resolve it in time for the end credits to roll

Doctor Who ran for 26 series between 1963-1989, when it returned -->

Thanks both for your comments – they all seem straight forward tweaks and nothing needing lengthy explanation, so I've made the changes as suggested. Feel free to ask for clarification about anything, though.smiley - smiley

Gnomon - time to move on

That's a lot clearer now, thanks.

Two points:

1.

The footnote:

"After K-9 ended, K-9 was able to appear more often in The Sarah Jane Adventures"

Since italics don't appear in the footnote text when you hover over the footnote index, this looks odd. You could rephrase it as:

After the K-9 series ended, K-9 was able to appear more often in The Sarah Jane Adventures.

2.
Presumably it was the the original BBC K-9 rather than the curvy one that appeared in The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Aside:

My daughters recorded every episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures but never got around to watching any of them before they were put off Doctor Who by Steven Moffat.

Good points both, I've tweaked the text to reflect that.

Shame they missed out on The Sarah Jane Adventures, they were much more Russell T Davies era in feel, real quality children's television drama.

K-9 Entry's birthday was on Tuesday smiley - magic

I've read the Entry again, and there are a few tweaks that would help before it gets picked.

" a K-9 capable of flying in adventures " - the first sentence of the introduction is very good to set the scene but this bit isn't quite clear...

"CCPCs (Cybernetic Civic Pacification, sic). " - to make it clear that the s in CCPCs doesn't stand for sic, perhaps rephrase to something like "CCPCs after Cybernetic Civic Pacification (sic). "?

"Unlike The Sarah Jane Adventures, which had two-part stories, most K-9 stories only featured one episode" - should that read "one story per episode"?

Your Guide Entry has just been picked from Peer Review by one of our Scouts, and is now heading off into the Editorial Process, which ends with publication in the Edited Guide. We've moved this Review Conversation out of Peer Review and to the entry itself.

If you'd like to know what happens now, check out the page on 'What Happens after your Entry has been Recommended?' at EditedGuide-Process. We hope this explains everything.

Thanks for contributing to the Edited Guide!
