Since I'm going away for two weeks, I'm going to throw an extra entry into Peer Review this week (I normally only put one in per week).
This one has been in Peer Review before. Previous conversation: F102620?thread=8312677

It looks very useful – I've been to Turkey many years ago, but can't say that I remember any phrases to be able to comment usefully.
I know you've done some 'How to Pronounce...' entries before – is this part of a project (if not a Uni project) on languages and alphabets etc?

It's not a project, BB. I just write on whatever I'm interested in at the moment.
I'm not a great fan of completeness. I don't usually try to report every single fact to do with a subject, because that's Wikipedia's flawed model.

This looks quite straight forward, but is the 'u' pronounced like 'oo' (as in 'Scooby Doo') rather than the 'u' (as in 'Dune' & 'Dew')?

I thought I stated that clearly. Perhaps the confusion is the phrase "other European languages". I wasn't including English in that, since English has a completely different pronunciation of the vowels from just about every other European language.
Perhaps I should say "other non-English European languages". Or "other European languages such as German, Italian and Spanish.

That looks good to me, especially as it creates an opportunity to link to some other language pronunciation entries:

A737723 Spanish Pronunciation
A863453 German Pronunciation
a, e, i, o and u are similar to European languages such as German, Italian and Spanish:

Hey, useful - and thanks!
One quibble: All Americans don't pronounce 'John' (or any other word) the same way. I'm American, and when I get through with 'John', it's got a diphthong in there.
Could you just spell it more or less phonetically? I'm guessing you mean 'dzahn' or similar?

Thanks, Dmitri. Since the example isn't correct I've removed it.

I've had a re-read and can't think of anything to change other than possibly adding a couple more links:
'These are sounds that don't exist in English but are common in French...'
To add a link to A2184482 French Pronunciation
Another possibility is A750953 Language and Life - a Perspective on Species

I searched for links for this and only found 8 suitable ones. I normally try to include 10 links.
I've added the link to French pronunciation, but I don't think the Language and Species entry is particularly relevant so I'm not going to link to it.
To bring the number of links up to 10, I've stuck in a link to A13900178 Fata Morgana on the word 'mirage'.

Just thought I'd mention that I read this on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week and didn't have any further thoughts or comments to make regarding it.
