Florida Sailor All is well with the world

I have seriously been considering rescuing the project for almost a dozen years. Stragbasher was one of the first researchers I added to my 'Friends List'. I have always had a hope that he would magically reappear to complete his project.

I think I arrived here about a month after his last posting. His departure seemed rather sad, I would have really liked to share posts with him.

It will be a challenge to keep his fun and informative style flowing, but I can not let this fine effort languish in the Flea Market.

You have called my hand and I must sign articles and take this aboard.

Fair winds and a quartering sea (a following sea is a smiley - bleep)

All input most welcome.

PS In land talk that means I will take this on. I will have several questions about the University processsmiley - ta

The first step is to formulate a proposal to the H2G2U

this was sent to me as a guide and it was very helpful

Its just to show what you plan but allows flexibility if you need it.

Excellent news FS! <BB< is the GE with responsibility for University projects.

We're flexible about the process these days. You can put each Entry through Peer Review separately, and earn the uni badge once the total Entries have been published. This takes some of the strain off our limited number of sub-editors.

Am I? Oo – do I get a pay rise?smiley - winkeye Seriously, if you have any questions or would like advice or anything, feel free to ask. You can either go down the 'put them all in peer review as normal' route, or the University route, there are advantages and disadvantages to both – any questions, you know where I am.smiley - smiley

But it is good to see you've made a start:

(I was worried you were feeling peer-pressured into taking this on, but I see you'd made a start back in 2012!)

Actually the 2012 Entry is my personal 'Working Entry' page that I use for keeping notes and links handy, also for checking Guide ML and testing linkssmiley - biggrin If you look at the comments they involve my UK trip. This page will not be part of the final Project.

However this project has been on my radar since 2003, I was really hoping that Stragbasher would come back and finish at least his personal account about the 'Star of India' I was hoping to read it.

My challenge will not be adding detail, but to restrict it to provide enough detail to be informative, and little enough to keep it interesting.

I now have Entries created for each of the proposed Project pages A87849896, some still have only a paragraph and titles, but I thought I would do a status update. The Entry on 'Terms' may well be split into several subjects, but we shall see.

Still a long way to gosmiley - puff

smiley - applauseExcellent to see it coming along. As they say, 'A job well begun is half done' and 'the first step is the hardest' etc.smiley - winkeye

Could you do me a favour and go along to University and start a conversation in the appropriate Faculty there, too? Just so it is easier to keep track of as a Uni project.

smiley - taGreat work!

Would it be possible to sneak in a mention of the Jubilee Sailing Trust, who have built tall ships to be sailed by people of all physical abilities - and the home port is Southampton. I've been onboard Lord Nelson, but not Tenacious. See: http://jst.org.uk/our-tall-ships

Thank you <BB<

I have added a mention to my list of ships you can visit. Since this Entry was last edited the ship has been returned to Australiasmiley - biggrin I have also added a credit to the author.

There are too many ships for me to provide a full Entry on each one at this timesmiley - sorry

Thanks for pointing this one out!

smiley - taI just thought I'd mention it, thanks for adding it to the list. I've been enjoying keeping an eye on what's happening with it, I'm glad it is being looked after and no longer in danger of being lost forever. As much as I'd love it to stay in the UK, in the UK it would just be another old ship whereas in Australia it means so much more.

Avast there!

Miraculously, and only six months late after an absence of over a decade, I have magically reappeared as requested.

Not sure I'll have time to do a lot with these old entries, but interested to see what's going on. I have no memory of how the university process works either, too much rum in my mis-spent youth, but (like the Dread Pirate Roberts) I believe in continuity!

So, greetings, shipmates.
