My primary aim was to have this listed on Google, so that all men would know this choice was available.

I think men should be encouraged to go to their doctors and seek tests if they think they could have prostate problems, as prostate cancer is pretty common in the UK and US. So anything that encourages them should be helpful. smiley - smiley

The article might be improved by a bit more information about why the biopsy might be needed (eg spell out prostate specific antigen).

I know that in America they test PSA levels, and any unusual rise in PSA levels means they are eager (over-eager in my opinion) to perform a Prostate Biopsy.
I know Prostate Cancer is common in older men, but I am not sure what the situation is about testing PSA levels in England.

John Hopkins, I'd venture, has the lastest and most extensive info regarding this problem - the science most accessable

UnderGuide Editors

Hello hmorgens, as you're also relatively new on h2g2 a short explanation of the Underguide is that it, or we, exist to give a place to good writing that doesn't fit into h2g2's Edited Guide. (For the long explanation, click on <./>underguide</.&gtsmiley - winkeye

smiley - bubbly is in order because the Underguide's miners selected your 'Prostate Biopsy' for inclusion. Ie a Front Page spot for a week and a listing in our archive (A2112490).

The UG's QA comments were that the writing and structure were good though there was some repitition. He also made a very pertinent point, that we need to be sure of the accuracy, medically speaking, of the entry. We must be certain that your message, although is of obvious benefit in some cases (we're not doubting your personal experience), doesn't put people off getting the treatment when it's needed - I'm sure you'd agree with that.

The h2g2 Editors have suggested we put a disclaimer, along the lines of 'Please note: This is an Entry based on the personal opinion and experience of one h2g2 Researcher. We would like to stress that the biopsy can be, ultimately, a life-saving procedure and that it's important to follow your GP's advice.' on the entry.

You might have your own ideas also, but one of the UG's Polishers can go into that when putting the copy for the UG together.

Thank you for contributing, and congratulations again,
UGeds
