Thank you smiley - ok

This is not something I've seen, but I appreciate the information - science fiction shining light on human nature indeed... Interesting about male, female and binnaum, too smiley - biggrin

Just one section that was difficult for me to follow:

"not even when the former Overseers, the kleezantsun'2, who have tattoos on their wrists." - looks like this is missing a word or two.

Footnote 2: "They tend to appear at the ends of words because the actors are English speakers." - not quite sure I follow this - is it something to do with simplifying the language to enable English speakers to pronounce the words, rather than making it more like Xhosa or other language with clicks?

"Mitch (X-Files) Pileggi is an arrogant kleezantsun' named Jean-Paul Sartre." - Aha smiley - eureka - Mitch (X-Files) Pileggi plays Jean-Paul Sartre (not Mitch (X-Files) Pileggi is Jean-Paul Sartre smiley - laugh)

*This posting is paused while even more thinking takes place*

"The lyrics to the opening them are: E take nas naj...nah sus gah nilpa. Katie Johnson is Kenneth Johnson's daughter. Susan Appling Johnson is his wife. That sort of thing and some artfully placed clicks make for a satisfying linguistic experience without killing the actors."

*Posting resumes*

Aha smiley - eureka So the lyrics to the opening theme illustrate "reverse English with the syllables reversed" and translate as 'Kate Johnson'... 'Susan Appling' smiley - ok

Great illustration on the Entry as well - fascinating how Pitman shorthand is so useful to aliens (Vogons use it, too!) smiley - ok

Thanks for reading, Sasha! smiley - smiley I made a couple of changes and I hope that's clearer now.

This is truly one of my favourite scifi series - exactly because of its approach to social issues. Well, okay, and the kind of humour that appeals to ESL teachers who are used to looking at society from the POV of immigrants. smiley - winkeye
