I used to watch the world's strongest man when Geoff Capes was competing, it had completely slipped my consciousness since then so thanks for the memory jog! Carrying boulders and pulling lorries with either a skull cap or their teethsmiley - groanI wonder if any lasting damage was donesmiley - injuredto any of those contenders smiley - erm

A programme titled 'The World's Strongest Man' or something similar always seems to be on around Christmas and New Year on Channel 5, is that the same competition? If so, out of curiosity who is the strongest man now? I know that in previous years the actor who plays 'The Mountain' in 'Game of Thrones' has been in it and done very well. If it is the same competition, that means that Eddie Hall is stronger than a mountain!smiley - yikes

Hi GB

Thanks for reading smiley - biggrin Yes, I used to enjoy watching World's Strongest Man during the Geoff Capes era as well smiley - biggrin It must have been around 2012 that I happened to find it on TV again and encountered Eddie Hall - I was very impressed by his solid and symmetrical physique and the fact that he's a nice guy, too, so I started to follow his career.

It is a dangerous game, though - one of the previous winners returned in 2017 after a couple of years out because he tore his ligaments to pieces in a competition, but his team managed to put him back together again. Eddie Hall did well to stay fit, too, after picking up a few injuries over the years... I'm aware that at least one competitor died during one of the competitions... The strains are so immense...

Hi <BB<

Yes, the World's Strongest Man competition is the one that's broadcast on Channel 5 at Christmas smiley - ok Eddie Hall is World's Strongest Man until August 2018.

Hafthor (Thor) Björnsson is The Mountain, so he did well, but Eddie was able to beat him smiley - oksmiley - magic

Is it worth mentioning in a footnote that Hafthor 'Thor' Björnsson plays The Mountain in 'Game of Thrones'? That's one of the most popular television programmes ever broadcast on smiley - earth, watched by millions, if not milliards, so should help put a face to the name. Well, at least a helmet...

It certainly is worth mentioning in a footnote, but I didn't have time to do that this morning, so I've done it now smiley - ok

I also checked the details and see that although Eddie's win was able to be announced in August, he actually won in May 2017 so I added that in, too.

smiley - biggrin
