A very worthy subject. It's extremely annoying that early spaceflight suffered from all sorts of casual sexism and racism like that - we are grateful to those pioneer mathematicians for fighting their way through.

After I added the photo to this Entry, I watched a programme that featured Gladys Mae Brown talking about GPS. There was a montage of photos and this one of Katherine Johnson appeared! I'm hoping it was included because of the calculating and the celestial sphere in the background, and not because someone mistook Katherine Johnson for Gladys Mae Brown...
