Lovely Entry smiley - rose

The only question I had was: how do we know Hope had a calf?

Hi Sasha, thank for reading and commenting smiley - cheers

I watched the documentary which was narrated by Sir David Attenborough. I took notes at the time but I can't remember how they knew Hope had had a calf. Anyway I have checked it up and it was something to do with the chemicals in the whale's baleen. My research shows that it's not definite proof she had a calf, only suspected and requires further research. I've adjusted the entry to suit - I hope that helps smiley - smiley

Bluebottle

(It isn't particularly relevant to this entry but the UK's oldest theme park opened in 1843, starting off with a skeleton of a fin whale. It famously posthumously knocked off Queen Mary's hat.)

There was a whale jawbone at the entrance to a Cleethorpes park, been there since Victorian times but it got vandalised and had to be removed for safety reasonssmiley - grr I remember being enthralled with it as a child...smiley - schooloffish

This is very nice. smiley - applause I like the tone, too.

Just one thing bothered me:

>>she probably only came into contact with three other living creatures during that time...<<

I'm guessing the whale might have run into all sorts of other things in the sea: fish, other water mammals, etc.? Is there any other way to say what you meant? Such, as, 'during her lifetime, her social circle was small...' or something like that?
