The 1000 new feral cats in Chicago have been a major news item this week. (They got tired of talking about politics, I guess.) So I figured we could run with it, too.

Thanks DG - very topical, but also well written so this Entry will be a record of the event for the future smiley - ok Great choice of photo, too smiley - ok

Just two things I wasn’t sure about:

The mention of meowing makes me wonder - could you maybe link to more information about that? Our cat A87906630 had ways of getting us to do her bidding without saying a word, but my sister has trained most of her cats to speak to her when she speaks to them smiley - laugh

“ So, if you live in a city, consider sponsoring a cat or two.” - sponsoring means donating to the Cats at Work program to enable them to relocate a cat?

Good points! Feral cat researchers say feral cats don't meow - or not as much - because it's a language they use with humans. I added a Library of Congress link. smiley - blackcat

Our cats, being of barn cat stock, refuse to meow at us. But they aren't shy about letting us know what they want. smiley - winkeye There's head-butting, love-biting, rubbing, etc.

I also clarified the 'sponsoring' - people can give them money, but people also volunteer to build outdoor shelters and provide food. Some of the cats live under people's porches and get fed twice a day. smiley - smiley

I love your 3D smiley - cat.

Excellent thanks smiley - ok

Ah, yes - our cat was barn cat stock, too - not feral, but not handled by humans much when she was a kitten, so that makes sense that she didn’t use meowing to communicate with us smiley - cat
