I certainly know of their work through Coraline, which was well worth seeing. I haven't seen any of their other films, though - I heard of 'Missing Link' because I wondered if it was connected to the Missing Link character in 'Monsters vs Aliens' A87885058 but didn't manage to see it.
I think there might be a typo in relation to the items that were 3D printed
That is a shame that Missing Link had such a big budget and yet was not able to be distributed to the mass market... Worrying for Laika's future indeed.

I've added some more links now, including to 'Monsters vs Aliens', but Missing Link is completely different - in the earlier film he is a tribute to the Creature from the Black Lagoon B-Movies, here he is a Bigfoot.
I still don't know what is happening with Laika. They've not officially closed but many of their animators have been nabbed by Netflix who have opened their own stop-motion animation studio in the area - though animators regularly are contracted to work on a film-by-film basis and go where the projects are.

That is intriguing that Netflix are taking on stop-motion animation... Yes, not surprising the animators would take work where they can get it, when the situation at Laika is uncertain...

What's the news in relation to Laika these days, what with one thing and another? Has it gone or is it still fizzling?

It hasn't officially collapsed but there has been no news for over a year. The virus is of course causing a moratorium on stop-motion animation as it cannot be done remotely, it requires people to be in the studio and is a hands-on craft. But will Laika ever resume filmmaking? I sadly suspect not, but it still isn't officially closed so who knows?
