You could see this as Greek Arts part 2, but the whole structure is different because it's easier to talk about building types and not strict timelines. It also doesn't have as much background information about other historic events. I kind of couldn't fit it in in the right way and now think it isn't really missing.

I know there are a few things in this which are already mentioned in Gnomon's Entry about Greek temples, but I also wrote some different things and linked to it so I thought it is ok.

Fascinating stuff! I wonder if the maze is why they didn't need fortifications. Just thinking aloud. And I like the detail that the statue of the god could 'see' the offerings. smiley - smiley

Proofreading:

terretory = territory

>>Contrary to the Minoan culture<<

'In contrast to the Minoan culture...'

>>a single rectangular room which later got an added entrance hall and colums<<

'a single rectangular room which later acquired an added entrance hall and columns'

>>minoan and mycenean architecture<<

'Minoan and Mycenean architecture'

>>triglyphs should remind of the sides<<

'Remind' needs an object, and 'should' is only used in the sense of 'ought to'. How about 'triglyphs were meant to be reminiscent of the sides....'?

cantileverd = cantilevered

thistel = thistle

>>While the architecture of Greek temples was based primarily of modules they were not used without thinking.<<

'While the architecture of Greek temples was based primarily on modules, they were not used arbitrarily.'

>>Especially reliefs and statues should look more realistic and were therefore painted.<<

'Reliefs and statues, in particular, were intended to look more realistic, and for this reason, they were painted.'

amphi theatre = amphitheatre

>>the influence of Greek architecture did not end here but should inspire many future styles...<<

'...the influence of Greek architecture did not end here, but went on to inspire many future styles...'

I remember the Athenian agora very well. There's also a Roman forum in picturesque ruins. Usually, it's full of cats, but Elektra and I attended a concert there one night - the Chieftains, from Dublin, with step-dancers. I think the ancient Greeks would have enjoyed it. smiley - smiley

Thank you! All changes made. smiley - smiley

Historians suspect that the Minoans didn't need fortifications because they controlled the sea anyway and nobody could reach their island.

This is really interesting - something that I didn't study much of in my Classical History course, so I learned a lot.

I think the Entry would benefit from an introduction just to set the scene of what it covers, before going into detail on the earliest architecture.

Excellent concluding paragraph smiley - applausesmiley - biggrin

Yes, it's a good start but I think you're right that it does still lack a little something... I think adding a few words about buildings and/or architecture in the sentence would set the scene of what the Entry is about, like you did for your Roman Antiquity Entry smiley - biggrin

>>and they should influence Europe for many centuries to come.<<

Try: '...and they were to influence Europe for many centuries to come.'

Trust me: this is actually the right locution, no matter how weird it looks. smiley - winkeye It's one of those 'time travel tenses' in Dr Streetmentioner's book.
