For a while, I was considering having my character die at the end of the story, but I relented. Despite his problems, he had a lot to live for.

I'm reading "The anxiety and phobia workbook," which has a chapter about developing assertiveness. Maybe, if and when another cooperative novel gets written, I can hold out for being a character which happens to be a wise tree. Maybe I will develop the skill to sell the powers that be on that. And hopefully there won't be another character who's a lumberjack.
