In this case, 'them' refers to the answer to my 2nd question. would you have preferred the proverbial 'them'?

Could we give them the benefit of the doubt? Are 'them' the same as the 'they'? When they say that "they say that........." - who are they? Shouldn't 'them' and 'they' be removed fromm the English language altogether?

what about the use that we have for "they" and "them" when we have mentioned a group of people (eg: the members of the Dave Matthews Band fan-club), and need to refer to them as them?

To be honest, I can't be bothered looking. I'm too busy posting on games forums, aren't you?

Am I right in thinking that anyone who starts a sentence with the words 'to be honest' is certain follow it with a complete fabrication? Would it not be honest to say "What I am about to tell you is a bare faced lie"? Was it not Harold Wilson - the late and sometime occupant of a bungalow on one of the Scilly Islands - who coined the phrase 'to be perfectly frank and honest'?

Are you saying Nick is lying?

Wouldn't it be more polite to say that he regards the truth as a limited and valuable commodity and therefore uses it only when absolutely necessary? Wouldn't that comment be better posted on the Sarcasm Only thread?

A direct question demands a straight answer - doesn't it. So - if I said "yes" - would that be good enough for you?

If you said "yes" how would I know that you were not telling me a lie?

Am I right in thinking that although I know you think you understand what you thought I wrote, I am not sure that you realise that what you believe you read is not what I meant? Could I be wrong?
