Needless Alley, Birmingham (why does it even exist?)

Every Street, Leicester (more like the walkway on the far side on the green in front of the Town Hall, on which the Tourist Information place resides)

Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate, York (claimed to be the shortest street in the city)

I've just found out about the last one today, but I've seen the first two with my own eyes. I'm half wondering if there's an entry in here somewhere, but if there is what other streets should I include?

In Sandwich, there used to be a very short connecting street that had no name. It has now been named "No Name Street".

What, there actually is a Letsby Avenue? Please tell me that there's a police station on it. Please let it be so.

And while I'm still here, hello girlgardener!

It looks like this is your first foray into the wonderful world of h2g2. Glad to have you onboard. I see that lil has left a welcome message on your space. She's nice like that. Lovely, in fact. I'm sure she'd love to hear from you.

And thank you for telling me about the marvellous Letsby Avenue. I would say that it's made my day, but it'll shortly be tomorrow, so that may not add up to much.

I've always liked the adjacent 'Whiteladies Road' and 'Blackboy Hill' in Bristol. There are (probably apochryphal) stories linking them to prostitution and / or slavery, but I still think the real derivation would be interesting to find out. And of course there used to be 'Gropec***t Lane' in London. Apparently.

Not a street but there is the now famous Tickle Cock Bridge in Castleford

There is definatly a entry in this, I did think about entering the saving the best to last competition and thought this could be my subject, but no time or ability.

We are childish and purile when it comes to place and street names, many a happy hour have the kids spent perusing a map on a road trip for funny or rude names, Bitchworth, Crapstone, Sheepwash, I could go on but I don't know if this will survive moderation,

Certainly any discussion about Threadneedle street wouldn't do smiley - yikes

Cheerful Dragon

Crutched Friars, London borough of City

Hubby has long been amused by the address of one insuranced broker's Head Office - 3 Crutched Friars. I recently discovered that a Crutched Friar was a friar of the Holy Cross.

Headless Cross, Redditch

This isn't a street name, but an area of a town. It refers to a T-junction (T is a 'headless cross' - geddit). The road that forms the cross-bar runs from Birmingham to Worcester, the road that forms the down-stroke runs from Redditch to Bromsgrove. It's a bit of a wonky T, but it's still a T.

Robyn Hoode - Navigator. Now with added Studnet status!

In Bristol there's a There and Back Again Lane. The sign gets stolen regularly.

Leg of mutton road in Glastonbury too.

Aaand... Blaggs Lane. In a less savoury area of Bristol, it's a back road and it's known locally as Sl... yeah, you get the idea, though it's not an official name so I suppose it doesn't count.

Icy North

We discussed this a year or so ago, didn't we?

I suggested Cr0tch Crescent, Oxford, and Bell 3nd (near Birmingham, I think). Both can be confirmed via Google maps/street view.

MonkeyS- all revved up with no place to go

There's a Chickabiddy Lane in Southam, which I think is quite a sweet name.

There are a lot of Avenue Roads- there is one that I know of in Epsom and I think one in Leamington- which smacks of Town Planners giving up thinking of a name and just hitting the pub! smiley - ale

There's a village in Surrey called Friday Street, which legend or folklore says is named after Fr1g- the wife of Odin. Something to do with the Viking invaders, if memory serves me right.

And there is a Ha-Ha Road in Woolwich, the name referring to a ditch or embankment rather than to any comedic value.

Just Bob aka Robert Thompson, plugging my film blog cinemainferno-blog.blogspot.co.uk

My friends have always been delighted by Birch Polygon in Manchester. Some of them even tried to look for a house there, but they're all big, expensive mansions.
