No it's not you, and we've been very remiss by just naming things and not explaining them (the point of the thread was to explain them).

2legs, who you may have met onsite, took some badger silliness to an h2g2 Meet (where researchers meet in RL). From that came the attack badgers (who get brought out when needed), and there was the badger song (google badgerbadgerbadger). The badgers were involved in a spy thing on various researchers PSs (because contrary to popular opnions they're sneaky little buggers). There's an h2g2 badger blob (picture). Check out 2legs' PS for more badgerology. He has a yellow badgerine over there somewhere too.

Plus we have some real, live badger researchers - Ferrettbadger, and blickybadger are the most obvious still around.

I wouldn't worry too much if that doesn't make sense. It will in time.

So, were the badgers adopted here? I know someone posted a link to the badger, mushroom snake clip only yesterday. Way too much backlog and different threads.

Gnomon - time to move on

I think the pervasiveness of the badger meme is an h2g2 phenomenon. Outside of this site, people just think of the animated cartoon.

TRiG (Ireland) A dog, so bade in office

I can't remember whether it was Ferrettbadger or blickybadger (or both) who said he was so named for other reasons before the badger meme.

My grown up kids talk about badgers - and neither of them have anything at all to do with h2g2.

I think both blicky and FB were here before that infamous Meet.

The wikipedia section on "Badgers in Popular Culture" doesn't mention the badger meme, so I presume either it is not common enough to have reached the authors of that site, or that they don't know how to write a real Guide.smiley - tongueout

You can call me TC

It also has the meaning "to pester" someone - i.e. to keep asking them about something, and, of course, it is the comparative of "badge" (badge, badger, badgest)

We are very proud of our badges.

I just read through 130 posts of this backlog and decided it was just too much so if something was covered between then and now my apologies.

One of my favorite traditions is when an entry is picked for the Approived Guide
everyone who is subscribed to that PR thread posts a congratulatory smiley.
like smiley - applause or smiley - bubbly

I've just been reminded of another tradition - and that is the smiley - tomatosmiley - flan fights between the users of Goo, Alabaster and Brunel.

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

I know TC touched on it, but the Meets are important and may be almost unique. I've even introduced my other interweb friends to the concept. And the Meets are International.

Which brings me to the Intercontinentals. smiley - hug

Or Our President, dear (hopefully now dried out) Hypatia. smiley - applause
