I'm getting so fond of the new apostrophies, that I'm even getting them now in Alabaster well kind of I'm sure we need a new more suitable definition of Burlesque...

After a brief self-guided tour of Barlesque, I have reverted back to Goo until we are notified from the Eds that Barlesque is deemed fit for consumption. At that time, I will decide for myself if it is tolerable.
As much as I love Goo, I can learn to tolerate the appearance of Barlesque as long as the functionality of old hootoo is transfered to noohootoo. If the functionality isn't there, I can't honestly say if it will be worth the effort to stay here.
During the Great Foop when hootoo disappeared before it was acquired by BBC, we community old timers found several places on the 'net to congregate. At the time, we had no warning of the shut down and it was amazing to see the researchers rally to find a way stay in touch. If we did it before, we can do it again.

I'm still using brunel. I've piddled with barrelesque a bit, but without the utility of the convo popup, I find navigating conversations near impossible. I need to be able to go straight to the next unread message, not the last message and definitely not to the first message when I click to go to the last message.
I've mentioned my dissatisfaction with the loss of functionality in the appropriate threads so I'll just wait for any word on Monday if we can expect those issues to be addressed.
I've just changed my nick, but I doubt it will show up for a bit.
It will now say "Count Zero - 42 percenter in brunel".

o yes, your names changed They're working on it... We've had message to that affect now at least (finally)... But it all depends on weather the loss of functionality (I can't navigate convos either with the problems you mentioned), is somethign they're planning on fixing* or somethign which they consider a 'new part of the new site design'

Re post 185
I was there during the transition, and yes we just woke up one morning
clicked the favorites tab expecting it to appear, and there was nothing there. http://www.h2g2.com was gone.
I had to go to a search engine to find out why.

I had found the site, but not registered, what must have been just* before that happened.... and then re-found it some time not long after it became part of the BBC... when eventually I did then register...

I also expect we will rally and gtet through this current transition.
We lost a few at Single sign on, we lost a few at BBCi (especially since it required you to have been active during the previous year for your password to remain active) but the core remained, and I believe they will still be here next year.

We lost an awful* lot of people at BBCID, people who regularly posts, but just not very* frequently, there were a whole bunch of people who'd come on, every year or two, post a bit, update, etc., sometimes hang about a while, adn then be gone... for another couple of years... only of course now they're gone for good.
Problem is the core gets smaller and smaller year by year, and there are little new people coming to the site, who actually stay, though glad to see over the past two or three years, a few people who' I'd almost classify as 'core' now, as they're such frequent posters to the site...

We might have to if they switch off dna/h2g2
I think this is way more serious than the registration upgrades. Those were hurdles for some people to be sure, but at least once you got over them you had a functional site. This is a different kettle of I've seen other online communities in better shape than this one founder on less disruption that this will cause. And as someone pointed out, if there are deadlines and budget contraints on a project that's already overrun it's proposed launch by some months, it becomes harder and harder to sort issues out, esp if the site is left live and being used in the meantime. Some people will simply give up if the site is too hard to use, or the disruptions go on too long. Never mind attracting newbies.
My hope is that come Monday the Eds suggest we stop using the site except for testing purposes. That they give us some idea of what's going on, who's fixing what and how long it will take (realistically. They obviously thought the problems last week had been sorted enough to let us back at the site, but IMO they should have asked us to go there and test the site not tell us it was up and running).
I think the community can be a great asset in helping sort this mess out, but only if they use us. And to do that they'll need to communicate better than they have been.

I also think they should just be really honest with us. I know this is tricky because the bbc won't want its dirty laundry aired in public, but if the Eds turn up on Monday and say there's nothing really wrong with the site I'll be losing respect for the project at a massive rate (Nick Reynolds said earlier that the new site is working fine).

anyway to get back on topic and limit the drift
is the name burlesque a deliberate parady:
I was under the impression the new sight used barleyque.
