The story itself is of no consequence. I'm just questioning why the BBC is running this as the lead story on World News and why they've been running variations of the Pistorious story as a lead item for FOUR BLOODY DAYS !!!
Dumbed down, celebrity-driven mush for the chatterati? Much?

Pastey Posted Feb 24, 2013
I agree, it's a total non-story for the world. A tragic accident that is being used as fodder for the chatterati (nicking that phrase!)

I've got relatives over from Panama, Costa Rica and America just now and they're totally non-plussed about the coverage.

In fairness, this isn't some B-list non-entity, and it's not the usual tedious he-said, she-said, possible bit of domestic violence. This is one of the most famous athletes in the entire world, who ADMITS he shot and killed his girlfriend in his own bathroom. Why is anyone surprised this is news?
He is Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, David Beckham famous. If Becks shot Posh, you can bet it would damn well be the top story for quite a while. That's pretty much what you've got here. It's bigger than the OJ Simpson case, because it's not even as if he's denying being the shooter.
Meanwhile, I'm enormously amused at how coy basically all news organisations are being about the precise nature of the "inappropriate behaviour" of which famous homophobe Cardinal Keith O'Brien is accused.
It's hilarious watching them carefully list all the nasty homophobic things he's said (has been an outspoken opponent of gay rights, condemning homosexuality as immoral, opposing gay adoption, and most recently arguing that same-sex marriages would be "harmful to the physical, mental and spiritual well-being of those involved"), then carefully NOT say anything AT ALL that might be construed as meaning he's touched up some priests. Or whatever it is they're not saying, because obviously, they're not saying.

I don't think they can say anything at the moment cos they'd be buggered if they do.

And this is what the 'media' is saying the Pope has resigned over before it all kicks off...not pedophile priests praying on children but an adult touching up another adult...OK, not good but even on the same level and it sort of gives you what the Vatican thinks is embarrassing...

I think that's completely different. If Becks shot Posh, we'd give him a knighthood.

Politician can't bring himself to admit that he put his fingers in his ears and went 'la la la la la la la '.
Nick Clegg says the allegations about the Lib Dem Chief Executive were "indirect and non-specific concerns".
So what exactly were those "indirect and non-specific concerns" then?

"Luxor hot air balloon crash kills 18 tourists
Two Britons die and two others survive after balloon catches fire and explodes west of Egyptian city on sunrise flight."
I wonder if a drunk vampire took a trip on it by mistake.

I wonder how many were aware of the previous accident in 2009:

I like the idea of a new Titanic. It *was* a good ship, but it ended up being rushed and not having enough of the safety features (particularly those things between the outer and inner hull that I can't remember the name of) being put in. But it was supposed to be a very safe ship.
Good luck to the guy
And if he happens to want to send me a ticket to review it for the Guide, I'll be very grateful

I'm a cunard fan myself, though if somebody could send me at ticket to have a look at the Queen Mary's largest sweets (decent size two floor apartment, in effect) that'd be great
Though I'm still disappointed when i went on the QE (not the current one) to cross the atlantic, we got this message on the fourth day from the captain "I'm sure a fair few of you will be disappointed, but we'll have to take a detour to avoid the tropical storm in our way"
She was a great ship, we wanted to see how she'd handle it - apparently Cunard and their insurers frown on things like that though
