Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked
The local cinema (it's an Empire one) does a Saturday and Sunday morning thing were they play a recent kid's film, and the tickets are all £1. It's cheap enough to keep the kids happy.
Okay, so this film was fairly predictable formulaic stuff, but our boys seemed to like it. It's The Muppets Movie in a few weeks. I'm rather looking forward to that one.

That's great Geggs. I went to something similar myself, as a child. Only I went alone, clutching a tanner, and on birthdays we got a free ticket for next week (on production of a current birthday card).
There was always a main film, some cartoons and a children's newsreel.
Dang, you made me feel 9 years old again...

Men in Black III is the biggest thing out here this week. Maybe I can persuade hubby to go to the cinema for some mindless entertainment this Whit weekend.
Guard was great by the way. Although I have a feeling something must have been cut on the DVD. There was no great speech by Brendon Gleeson at the the beginning (Except when he took the tablet and said what a f**ing beautiful day it was)
And it's kept me thinking since, which is always a good thing. And it reinforced my fears about visiting Ireland with an English accent (the Mark Strong character) - which Gnomon says I shouldn't worry about, but we're going in the summer, so I'll see.
On the DVD of "Guard" there was also a short film called "The Second Death". Very atmospheric.

Maybe it was just me but that had me laughing like a drain.

Oh yes, it was funny, OK, but I thought you meant some kind of expositional monologue.

Volcano. We watched it with our best friends while nursing our post-Eurovision hangovers and it was just the thing. Unreal disaster upon unreal disaster, and plenty of opportunities for guessing (usually accurately) the destiny of each character. Plus of course lots of laughs. I imagine we're supposed to take this stuff seriously but I really don't know how anybody can.

I just watched the Norwegian movie Troll Hunter. Good idea but perhaps not that well executed.

Maybe a bit of an aside as it isn't a film, but I just watched the first episode of Hit and Miss, the new Sky Atlantic drama with Chloe Sevigny.
Oh!
Not wanting to give any spoilers but,

The Grey. It kept me watching throughout, but I did think it was well named. It wasn't Hollywood at all. I have to say I felt freezing and had to watch with a blanket wrapped round me and have constant hot drinks - even though I am in Sydney and the temperature doesn't get anywhere near zero.

The Lincoln Conspiracy. Very low-key but left me with an ice-cold feeling in the stomach. Quite unsettling.
Plus, Robin Wright's a great example of how to become even more beautiful if you age naturally...

I watched X Men Origins: Wolverine last night. I don't know why or what possessed me, even nearly-naked Hugh Jackman () and Ryan Reynolds (double ) can redeem that film.

OK Brace yourselves. I've been flying again!
In Time - futuristic edge of your seat drama as people really do run out of time. I enjoyed it. Particularly liked the concept of everyone being the same age and not being able to tell brother/sister from father daughter etc. and the social problems that creates.
Big Fish - I may have been overtired but it made me cry! Loved it. Look out for Danny Devito scratching his ear!
Tinker,Tailor, Soldier, Spy - I did like this for the non-spectacularness of the complex story.
Chronicle - group of lads discover super powers and find different ways to cope, or not! Better than I expected.
Immortals - really awful. I was very disappointed by the Minotaur in particular.
The Muppets - Joyful stuff that was fun.
Felt like I needed to spoon my eyes back into their sockets at the end though. I really wish I could sleep on flights.

Prometheus. In 2d, don't really enjoy 3d.
It was ok. I was having to ignore a number of plot weaknesses (100 years ahead, they don't have space suits with tracking devices, and have to do the standard calling out your name in the big echoey cave???)
And apparently, if you know alien and aliens well, that helps in appreciating this movie.
Liked the leitmotif of music, though.

Whoops - I forgot to come back and report on MIB 3. Saw it last Monday, so it's a bit vague now. Which means it was light fare and not particularly memorable. Fun effects, but the thing that had me squeezing my eyes shut was where Will Smith has to jump off the Empire State building.
Story-line... well, I coped with it, but I have my own opinion on Time Travel stories. (Suspended only for the Butterfly Effect, which I could watch again and again - "pun" intended)
Key: Complain about this post
