The temperature of space in this region is around 253 Kelvin, or minus 20 degrees Celcius. Since the moon has no atmosphere and therefore no greenhouse effect, the temperature on the surface of the Moon is also around 253 Kelvin.
From this we deduce that parts of the Earth's surface, during winter, can be accurately described as "colder than the moon!".
