abbi normal "Putting on the Ritz" with Dr Frankenstein

I'm a reddhead, my whole generation is.
As far as I know ,all had a redheaded first child, mixes of all kinds there after. A couple of my sibs have all redheaded children. Most are blond beyond the 4th or fifth child.

We had from carrot red to strawberry blond(me & twin)
Our Grandfather was Irish =His parents ((1) full (1 )1/2 Irish
Our Grandmother was naive American and E. European.(Prussian)

I watched a PBS show about Kashmir.
They have a line of redheads>>previously Prussians within their population.
Many have stayed purely redheaded for generations smiley - smiley

None of this is science but my personal experiences and curiosity.
I was teased very little but some about having red hair as a kid.
As a teenager on up I have found it to be a plus!smiley - biggrin

Althogh I am getting grey ,any help from a bottle will have a touch of strawberry blonde smiley - winkeye it has been a very good haircolor for me!
smiley - disco

Hey Creachy! We could set up a 'red head appreciation society'smiley - biggrin

I never understood why red heads at school are supposed to be objects of ridicule.. in my school they were mostly envied and tended to be the most popular!

But there were far to few of themsmiley - sadface Rarity makes things more valuable.

Phryne- 'Best Suppurating Actress'

Is it *true* about the preponderence of red hair in the Goideleic countries, or is that just a myth perpetrated by leprechauns?

My hair changes colour, going lighter and more red in response to the sun... curious.

Was there not a big thing for red hair in some Middle Eastern areas (in the past, obv.) encouraged by the use of henna?

Is there any difference between red-haired types with freckles, and those with none?

My hair's quite red, of the darker auburn variety. I only freckle when I've gotten too much sun... of course, I also burn to a crisp in about 10 minutes flat, so I rarely get exposed to too much sun. smiley - winkeye

A redhead appreciation society would be very nice indeed! It always feels good to be appreciated. smiley - smiley

I've always had a weakness for redheads... smiley - loveblush

...I used to be a redhead myself. Not natural, of course (I have hair that changes from black to brown...dependant on nothing at all as far as I can tell...) but a bright, firetruck red...or varying shades thereof...I never quite learnt how to work with peroxide... smiley - smiley

...Oh, and the girl I work with has beautiful red curly hair!! Not a drop of Scottish or Irish in her either...her mother is Spanish and her father is Italian...can anyone explain that one to me??

Zantic - Who is this woman??

Again I state that there is unlikely to be just the one gene for hair colour, but in current discussion if you exchange 'trait' for 'gene' that's about the size of it.
the whole reason for the many different shandes etc is likely (no-one knows for sure..it's too complicated to investigate till some of the more easily trackable inherited traits are resolved)due to threre being several different factors that go toward making up eventual hair colour.
One of these many factors is the production of melanin...as proved by albinos who just can't make it at all so are pure white of hair, blue of eye and pink of skin. But as to the different colourings - red, blonde, brown, black and all the intervening shades of these will depend on currently unknown factors.
The rareness of the traditional red-head is most likely due to decimation of these specific factors in the gene pool (ie, the redheads didn't get to breed so there isn't a majority of these factors anywhere but Ireland and Scotland)
But the specific factors are out there in part with dark haried people having red highlights etc, and so the 'red-head genome' can pop out of the most amazing places - as discribed by Listy - as a recessive trait.

HELP_IM_LOST (why are there not enough hours in the day?)

Red Head Aprreciation Socieity, very good too, i def agree with that one! Im a red-head, who at school, when younger, got picked on, then i just got the comments when i was older, and it was like, yeah, well when you can come up with something new, come back to me! But we are rare, and should be proud. Im not a ginger, im more of a champagne blonde, but hairdressers have never been able to lable my hair colour to a certain tone, so just agree that it is red! Oh, and im of Scottish/Dutch and English heritage. Great mix there! smiley - smiley Red heads rule lol

HJust as I was starting to think everything about red heads was good and worthy of appreciation, creachy just had to lower the tone.

I suspect there is a touch of all of them in all of us, I tend to get a fairly strong ginger tint to my beard and have a fair few copper hairs on me head. But there's no reds in our family that I am aware of. Still, given 2000 years of of everybody bonking everybody else on this little island there's a fair chance that the trait is in there!

Yay to red head appreciation! Carol Decker definitly had an effect during my teenage years smiley - winkeye

Just Bob aka Robert Thompson, plugging my film blog cinemainferno-blog.blogspot.co.uk

I agree that the red-haired trait is generally genetically recessive although, as Zantic said, it's not quite that simple.
I also agree that I've always found red hair to be particularly attractive in women. Jodie Foster, Gillian Anderson, Emily Watson...
If you do make a Redhead Appreciation Society, sign me up as an appreciator!
