Canberra, 9:15am Sunday 7 March.
It's about 18C at the moment, and it rained overnight. Not nearly enough, though - only about 3mm by the look of things. Not enough to help the garden, but just enough to make gardening really quite unpleasant. I'll shortly go and test this theory, as there's some weeding that I have to do today.

22C warm, dry and cloudless. Got to 25 today, so it was very summery already, with the whole neighborhood in shorts. My Don Quichote tulips, which survived this warm winter to bloom a few days ago, are now showing crispy.

Cool, clear, dry and breezy. A fairly average March day in fact.
(with regard to the post by Sea Change - I am intrigued by the idea of crispy tulips - what does that actually mean?)

20C. Was 30C today, about 8 above normal and close to century-record highs. Calm, cloudless, and smoggy.
Tulips grow thinly in the heat, and their petals glisten with a stained-glass quality. If the heat gets too strong, they lose their translucence, curl slightly and look like a colored potato crisp. Tulip leaves look like congealed bogeys to me, so I don't care what happens to them anyways, but they tend to 'frost' a bright sunburned purple.
I planted mine behind a heliotrope so they'd get enough sun to bloom but not so much that they'd roast (and the soft pink and lemonrind smell of the tulip complements the vibrant purple and bakedsugarbiscuit smell of the heliotrope), but it didn't help this year. I also underplanted with butter yellow nasturtiums, so it's not a total color/fragrance loss.

About 23C; clear sky and gentle breeze. There was some light mist earlier, but it's burned off now. There's a hot air balloon regatta on at the moment; as a result I have a massive balloon shaped like the severed head of Vincent van Gogh hovering over my house. There's also a huge frog looming over the trees. Nice weather for surrealism.
Ivan.

21C Full sun, gentle breezes. Also had light fog this morning, that got burned off. You wouldn't guess the outrageous prices being charged for petrol in California lately by the huge volume of traffic this weekend!

The sun has got his hat on, hip hip hip hip hooray!
Unfortunately, the forecast is for rain later. At the moment it is a lovely spring day and much warmer than last week.

It's about 15°C warmer than a week ago. It's lovely outside, no clouds, bright sunshine.
About 18°C right now... and best of all: no snow anymore!!!
