What Do People Like About America?
Evangeline Posted Jul 6, 2003
I haven't been that far West.
We had a great time at Astroworld in Houston.
Watching the boats on the Mississippi river, especially from the observation deck of our state capital.
The Ghost tour at the Myrtles plantation is a great way to celebrate Halloween.

I've never been as far east as you are... we'll have to do an exchange program sometime!
What's a tour? Sounds fun!
The Denver Zoo
Sea World in San Francisco

An exchange?

The Myrtles is labelled as the most haunted house in the Southeast. At least ten murders have taken place there and an Indian burial ground is supposedly near the house. The tour starts at midnight Halloween night and lasts for roughly 90 minutes.

hi everyone
i think the reason for the name french fries because it comes from the phrase pommes des frittes.
france had colonies in the usa. usa is made up all nationalities and races alec.
i love the usa because of star wars, star trek etc and the space exploration. it's very easy to access the naasa website. i remember getting pictures from the mars probes over 4 years ago. i also love the usa because it's multi-cultural and so diverse in it's people. i also remember the moon landings in 1969.

i keep seeing this pop up on my conversations list, and my first intention was to come here and post 'its proximity to canada'.
reading the backlog has renewed my outlook
i should probably apologize also, i started the 'what's wrong with americans' thread way back at the dawn of my hootoo existence, before even 11 sept. little did i know what a monster it would become, and what other little monsters it would birth. i can honestly say i haven't looked at that thread in probably two years, i didn't even realize it was still going until a few months ago.
so, what do i like about america?
cardinals vs. cubs games at wrigley field (even tho i've never been)
opus 'n bill the cat
sweet tea
chicago-style pizza
toasted ravioli
tex-mex
(why are so many of these food related?)
indiana jones
dave matthews band
little two-lane highways that go everywhere but are sadly rapidly disappearing (rte 66, hwy 67, etc) and the americana that's disappearing with them.

Je veux dire, Je suis American, et je parle un peu de Francais. J'aime beucoup la France. (I want to say, I'm american and I speak a bit of French. I like France a lot)
[Please forgive any grammatical errors and lack of accents]
queegle, I'd recommend a stop in San Francisco on your trip. It's a great city, birthplace of my wife!

AlecTrician, I (and perhaps the rest of the researchers, though I can't speak for them) would appreciate it if you would respect the spirit of this thread and focus on positive aspects. This isn't the thread for political commentary. There are numerous other threads available for that!
The Buckhorn Bar, in Pinos Altos, NM, home of cold beer and HOT food! (food really is prominent in this thread, isn't it? )

'political commentary' ranger??...when did that happen?
The fact that more and more people in the USA are realising just who their friends really are in europe, is one of the more positive aspects of this continually evolving country.

How about taking your commentary to one of the NUMEROUS "What's Wrong With" threads, Alec? This isn't the place for it.

Researcher Eagle 1 Posted Jul 9, 2003
Alec, however you may feel, I'd like to keep this thread positive. That includes other countries as well. If I have to, I'll create a "What do people like about France" thread, and hope that it too gets lots of positive feedback. There's a lot of negativity out there, and this is just a chance to express some good feelings. So if you really want to contribute to this conversation, maybe you could post some things you like about America without tearing down anyone else?
Key: Complain about this post
