What should I do with my life?
You can call me TC Posted Jul 13, 2009
Have a peek and don't go back there if you don't like what you see.
I remember reading once somewhere that 74% of adulterous affairs in the USA were sparked off at class reunions. In other words, even if those statistics are inaccurate (which they very probably are) there is a good chance of finding someone you'll get on with really well among your ex-classmates.
And you can say you've been all over the world and looked before coming back to your little Danish village (or town) for the girl of your dreams.

Well I´m now unemployed, living off money I borrowed from my parents, two weeks away from being homeless and companies I apply to aren´t getting back to me. Life is grand.

Xanatic Posted Aug 14, 2010
My options are pretty much limited to finding a job or borrowing more money from my parents.

Have you looked into voluntary organisations. I think they give you bed, board and travel, and you get to meet people and see life. Not that you haven't met people and seen life already.
Do you play an instrument? Is busking an option?

Years ago I looked into voluntary organisations, and they usually always expected you to work *and* pay for your own food and board. I´m having another job interview on friday, though only for a part time job. The job interview I really counted on fell through, I should have gotten that job.

Normally I´m hopeful, but this time I think I may well be living on the street in a week.

Xanatic Posted Aug 26, 2010
Well, at least it looks like I won´t be on the street for another two months. Now to get a job. I saw a job ad looking for people for a psychic hotline, wonder if I should apply.

If you're going to work for a psychic hotline you should already know the answer!

Poor Xan. Can you get yourself down here? Our lawn needs mowing and I've got a pile of ironing. And a roof for over your head. Failing that - I assume you're not completely at rock bottom... can't you go home to your parents or someone for a couple of weeks?
What should I do with my life?
Xanatic Posted Aug 28, 2010
Well I´m actually living off money I borrowed off of my parents. Going home to them would mean not being able to apply for jobs though. I´ll just have to keep trying here. I just got turned down for two more jobs. I guess I´ll apply to Burger King.

Four years of university and I just applied for a job at McDonalds. Damn you financial crisis.

A job suddenly appeared out of nowhere. I had my first day today. Good to be a productive member of society again.

A productive member of society? You're not a teacher, then Congrats on the job, I hope it lasts (at least till after Christmas...)

That really was a bit of . Quick work, too, starting right away - Er, I take it it wasn't McDonald's.

No, it´s just some work for a big telecoms company. Nothing exciting but hopefully it will pay the bills. Sadly it involves about two hour pendling each way.

Yelbakk Posted Sep 9, 2010
You could write a blog about pendling
Sho (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/U129860) has done that (http://commutertales.blogspot.com) and it's brilliant.

This is really not what my life was meant to be like at 30.

Xan - this thread has been going for 8 years now and we've been following your career - or lack of it. It's not easy for people on the outside to give advice. But, in view of the length of time you've been floundering, perhaps you're doing something wrong, or just looking at the wrong things.
So here is a summary of your thoughts and experiences so far:

Ben recommended you to read http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1580083412/qid=1017324068/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_3_1/102-9722230-1460150 (the link still works!)
Other suggestions included:
Write a book and while you flog it around the publishers, take whatever dirty jobs you can find.
Do some retail. While it stinks for the most part, it will expose you to a wide range of characters.
Join an archeological dig.
Find a delivery job that will allow you to network.
Find a scholarship program that requires an essay.
Become an apprentice.
(You can't say we haven't given you any advice)
Oh - what the hell - cataloguing this thread is too hard - there is so much stuff on the first page already.
Go back and read it all. Something might catch your eye.
Are you still living with your parents - do they have any influence anywhere?
