h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

It´s called Natural Science Basic Education. It sounds a bit too much like a teacher´s thing, but I´m in no position to complain. At this point I´m just doing it for the female students anyway

The chemistry course has to be taken now, if I want to study this year. And it involves 7 reports, and an oral exam at the end of it. Scary. The extra chemistry course is only for people with an average of less than 8.0 though, so it can´t be that necessary. Maybe I could get them to make an exception somehow.

They´re just fighting over me now I just got an offer from Cork University to study Physics & Astrophysics.

So would you rather be in Cork or Denmark? Which course looks more interesting?

Well, I wasn´t that keen on the idea of going back to Denmark. I like the multinational aspect of Dublin, and I just don´t think Copenhagen has the same. And the course seemed just too general. Besides the fact that I can´t get hold of the university to talk about that chemistry thing. And this Cork course is with astronomy. Besides they probably start a bit slower, as their education system isn´t as as high a level as the danish one. The physics in the first year is the same as I had in mylast year of high school. After four years out of the loop, I need some time to catch up. So the Cork one is probably the best one.

What is still to do in order to get there? This would be an October start, right?

Well, september start I believe. So I have about two weeks to quit my job with a months notice, move out of my house and find a place to live in cork. And pay them some money for getting in.

It is a confirmed place then?

I have never been to Cork, but I believe that part of Ireland is lovely.

I just found out today, I just need to figure out how it works.

I've been very drunk in Cork, but from what I can remember it was a lovely place. You can also go and kiss the blarney stone there, which should help with chatting up nice, friendly girls

Well, I was there once. Tried kissing the Blarney as well, though that doesn´t seem to have made me a better liar.

Hmmm, I just managed to get through to the Danish uni. They told me they were willing to give me a dispensation regarding the chemistry thing. I just have to do it on my own before the second semester. I hadn´t expected that, makes things more complicated. Especially as the course starts 1st of september. Now I don´t know which to choose.

Which course material would interest you the most?

Don't get involved with the rat race.Find the job wher you can do the least amount of work for the most money.DO not get depressed if you do not reach your ambitions. This is false pride.Question everything about social conditions.

I hope you decide on the astrophysics. It's right up your street, if I remember rightly.

Maybe you'll meet a nice young Astrophysicist called Trisha MacMillian, though she might get nabbed by a suspicious looking guy called Phil.

Xan - you'd be miles ahead cuz when you nab a bird and get her to look at the stars with you, you'd be able to a) name some, and b) tell her how they work, if she's interested, and if she's not, that's just daft

Actually, I wanted to do astrophysics at University! Ended up at Queens, Belfast, where they didnt do it
