Finished Orson Scott Card's "Speaker for the Dead" while I was on holiday. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Now half way through Yann Martel's "Life of Pi", a book centred on a truly unbelievable plot but written so well it becomes credible and gripping.

Finished Sharpe's Trafalgar this week, it was a very good read. It told me a lot about the way old warships fought and were built.

I'm in the middle of Pompeii, by Robert Harris.
Good going so far - tension is building up nicely, and he's managing to build in his "thriller" plot alongside the volcano bit.

The Fellowship is lovely, as is Return of the King, but the Two Towers is my favourite.
Currently reading... ah, still the Silmarillion (gosh why do I do this to myself, really it's a pile of poo)
and reading for fun: Enemy of the Gods by Bernard Cornwell, the second in his Arthurian Trilogy.
So... another novel full of sweaty men with swords for me. Pity, elves are thin on the ground!

Now reading Orson Scott Card's "Xenocide", Terry Pratchett's "Night Watch" (out in paperback at last ) and George RR Martin's "Fevre Dream", all left in different rooms to pick up when the mood takes me.
Also reading "The Coast of West Cork" by Peter Somerville-Large to remind me of my holiday and family heritage.

Just finished "Love in the Time of Cholera" and now reading Big Fish - a Novel of Mythic proportions ... kinda wierd and frighteningly easy to read but still with-holding judgement ... only started it this morning, could easily have finished it by tomorrow, especially if the train's delayed again ...

Enjoyed Life of Pi - finished it a couple of weeks ago. Since then have polished off the 5th Potter (ooh, some wonderful plot lines set up for no.6) and have just started a set of Stanislav Lem short stories, but may ditch it in favour of Night Watch, which has been burning a hole in the coffee table since Saturday...
