Foggy (and a little gloomy too)

Sho, I'm about half way through Lark Rise to Candleford & am enjoying it since its a relaxing, easy read, but I also find it a little dull since it sortof lacks a plot, which is something I wasn't expecting smiley - erm. At the same time though, that means I can leave off reading it for as long as I want & then pick it up later & still know whats going on smiley - smiley.

I finished HP & The Order of Pheonix last week, liked The Goblet of Fire much better, & am now reading Rose Daughter by Robin McKinely. I should probably find something more challenging to read after this or else my brain might turn to mush smiley - erm

Metal Chicken

Just finished "Solaris" by Stanislaw Lem - which I've meant to read ever since I was in Poland in February and it was in all the bookshops due to a certain movie tie-in. Interesting ideas but the translated text felt a bit clunky in places. Loads of dialogue only sections so I can see why people wanted to make a movie. (Not that I've seen George Clooney's version or the old Tarkovsky film)

About to get my teeth into either Orson Scott Card's "Speaker for the Dead" or maybe Yann Martel's "Life of Pi" which loads of people on here seem to have read recently.

*sits on hands*

still flogging my way through The Silmarillion - who would have thought anyone could make smiley - elf yawnworthy?? Still, Elrond just showed up, so that's got to be good.

Foggy, I loved that Lark Rise didn't have a plot. But... what is Flora Thompson actually famous for?

The Psycho Chicken -- self respect intact

I believe Jasper is Katie Fforde's cousin. The Eyre Affair is stonkingly good. I've just started on Lost In A Good Book (the sequel) and have The Well Of Lost Plots sitting waiting for when I've finished that.

Also have Mutts 8 - I Want To Be The Kitty on the go smiley - biggrin

A bit more on the Jasper/Katie connection. From:

http://www.jasperfforde.com/review/sundaystartn2.html

"He's not the only Fforde who writes fiction either. Romantic novelist Katie Fforde (Life Skills, Thyme Out, Second Thyme Around, Highland Fling) is married to his cousin Desmond."

MC, we were disappointed with the film of Solaris, but then I prefer films with a little more action.

Currently reading The Mad Monk of Gidleigh by Michael Jecks, a medieval murder mystery.
