I've just started The Big Over Easy by Jasper Fforde. I've read one of his others which I really enjoyed - I'm taking a while to get into this one but I think it's going to be a good 'un!

Finished HP6, aaaaaaaaaaaah!!!! It was DAMN GOOD.

I've always felt that every HP book is slightly worse than the previous one, but this was definitely better than the fifth. This was excellent.

Guess I should return to grown-up books now...smiley - sadface

Edward the Bonobo - Gone.

Jim Lynn's comment seconded. Funny...I haven't seen any reviews. But it does explain why he's popped up in a couple of unusual media places lately...like the Grauniad computer section. Viral marketing an' a' tha'.

Presumably this his his promised non-Thurday Next book about Humpty Dumpty?

"Presumably this his his promised non-Thurday Next book about Humpty Dumpty?"

Apparently so. It's nice to see a new one so soon after Something Rotten.

Now reading Coldheart Canyon by Clive Barker, who I sort of lost interest in some years ago. It'll be interesting to see how this one keeps my attention.

Yes, the new Jasper Fforde book is the Humpty Dumpty one. It includes many other childrens story characters popping up all over the place, and centres around a Detective called Jack Spratt who works in the Nursey Crimes Division! I'm definitely enjoying this one.

Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

The truly horrifying but still hilarious 'Don't Eat This Book!' by Morgan Spurlock.

As well as being an expansion of his marvelous 'Super Size Me!' (ie it has the scientific bits in that don't make for such a good movie), it also has a great deal of general information about the selling tactics of fast food chains and other such goodies.

Edward the Bonobo - Gone.

I've just discovered that the Russian poet, Yevgeny Yevtushenko, died on 18th July. Coincidentally, I'm unpacking boxes of my books from someone's loft at the weekend, so I'll be able to retrieve my signed copy of one of his collections.

Well... I am very ashamed of what I did today! Never thought myself capable...
I started reading the "Digital fortress" by Dan Brown.
smiley - yuk

What can I say... After not being impressed by the "Da Vinci code", after hating the "Angels and demons" I did go back to the same author? smiley - steam

I don't know about you, but I call that kind of behavior plain stupid... smiley - steam

Well... That's what a rainy Saturday does to people I guesssmiley - sadface

Sho - gainfully employed again

well, Night-eyes, all I can say is: that's what happens to people who don't read the backlog!!

sorry, smiley - hug you will get over it. But you have to promise that like me, you will not waste one more second reading any of Dan Brown's output.

An, smiley - cry Yevtushenko. I had to study Zima Junction for my Russian A-level, all those years ago, and we did a bit of some of his other stuff (leading up to and covering Babi Yar in some detail)

I'll have to have another look at his work. Very interesting and moving.

Dan Brown is rubbish. Stop reading his books, they'll make you stupid.

Yes I ditched the Dan Brown!
Unfortunately Sho, I have to confess that I have read the back log smiley - sadface Including your criticisms about the "Digital fortress"smiley - winkeye
It's just that... I am a nice person, I don't doubt my friends! And when this friend of mine, whose taste in reading I value a lot, insisted the book was good I... took her word for it!
It just comes to show that even the best have their moments of weakness, I guesssmiley - winkeye
So I started re-reading Terry Pratchet - a much better substitute even if I know it by heartsmiley - winkeye Good choice Auntie! smiley - ok

Just finished the Virgin's Lover by Phillipa Gregory - Liz I is characterised as a cross between Blackadder's & Glenda Jackson's portrayal - enjoyed it anyway.

Don't shoot me - I have, afterall, begun the ... dare I say it ... Da Vinci Code: my daughter had read it & wanted to compare notes. I'm only 10 pages into it, but already it reminds me of something I have either read or seen before. Is this a case of deja vu?
