6 TIMES!?!?!
Wow I think I've read the first three about 3 times (each), and the others just once. But I always reread parts, so there may be some pages I've read about 5 times. I do that with every book, but especially with my favourites. And I've got a very nice HP lexicon, including all things appearing in the first 4 books (by a german writer).

5 was The Order of the Phoenix. Overly long, and overly peppered with angst - and there is That Character Death which I may never forgive. (I think I wrote about it on my PS)
I like to read HP5 when I'm feeling particularly down, it's a real good wallow.
And now I've finished it, and still want to wallow, can anyone recommend any other books in that vein?

he was maybe my favourite character, and I still have got the illusion that HE CANT BE DEAD
Still: it is a great book
And in the next book another one is sayd to die. I have some fears who it might be...

Hmmm, maybe 'She's come undone', Wallis Lamb - I've still not finished it, but what I read is exactly in that vein

If you like long (really long) books you should certainly try Tad Williams' "Otherland", one of the greatest books I've ever read.

thanks B'Elana, that one looks fab.
As for "The Dead Character from HP5"... well, I was very about it. I can see why it was necessary, from a writer's pov but...
ah, this will derail the thread. Is there a convo about it anywhere? I feel the need to rant and rave without spoiling the novel for anyone who hasn't read it. (there are a few, you know )

I've started reading 'The Da Vinci Code' - and about a week ago, the book has vanished - as if it has dissolved into thin air - I've searched for it everywhere, but it's nowhere to be found

I felt annoyed when I found out who it was who died, but it fits in very nicely with the tone of the book I suppose

at the risk of sounding smug... don't mourn it, move on and read something else. I enjoyed reading it, right until the end, when i felt cheated and unsatisfied.
Although it is a good read.

I think he had to die to make things worse for Harry, and the next one who'll die will certainly make things even worse (worser, more worse, worserer, however).

What do you think of the rumours that it's Harry that's going to die next?

Never, there will be (at least) 7 books, one for each year in Hogwarts. What sense whould there be in a Harry Potter without Harry Potter? And: think about how angry the fans whould be, she just can't do it.

I'll believe that when I see it. However, it would be a brave move - but then given that either he or Voldemort has to die, it would sort of kill the series.
I've started reading Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf. And now I remember why I gave up on it when I was at school. I'm about 30 pages in - is it going to get any better?

I know he won't die in the sixth book because that would be plain silly. What about these rumours that Neville is the one with all the power though?

But in HP5 (which I finished this morning) Dumbledore and Harry discuss this, and Dumbledore quite clearly statest that it isn't Neville and they know this because of HPs scar.
Of course that could be misdirection by Ms. Rowling, but it will be very disappointing if she does decide it's Neville after all.

I can't see them changing the titles. Neville Longbottom and the Half Blood Prince doesn't quite have the same ring to it!

Sho, it's not a lack of books, there are too many waiting to be read, it's just that I can't understand where I put it - the flat is only three rooms, I shoiuld be able to find it - but obviously, I'm not

Maybe the Anti-Da-Vinci-Code forces have zapped it away...

I just pre-ordered Harry Potter 6 this morning, so I'll have to clear my time for it's release date to read it. I was disappointed by "the death" in HP5,I didn't think it was necessary, but I can see the point of view that maybe it WAS necessary in order to make Harry's world that much of a darker place. I can't see Harry being killed in the next one - if JKR wants ot make a big point about it then I think it would be someone closer like Hermione or Ron.
Looking forward to reading it
