Laws that should be created
The Oppressed Pipe of Great Magnitude(Home of 'The Adventures of Wesley Pipes') Started conversation Apr 21, 2001
I believe there should be a law against disturbing bins between the hours of 2 and 5 in the morning. I know Big Mad Mr T would agree with me.

Pah, can't do links.

Oh nooooo! You're joking, aren't you? You can't possibly want MORE laws. Don't you think we're already sufficiently hog-tied with rules and regulations in Britain, without casting about for ideas for new ones?
... Or do you live in the US? - in which case you would probably benefit from a gun control law.

Actually I believe all laws should be abolished. I am merely offering an opportunity for reaction against the stupidity of laws as a whole.

Don't get carried away. We need a few laws. I don't mean to oppress you but I have a bit of a soft spot for the law against murder and I'd like us to retain that one at the very least, if you don't mind.

I just think that it is a shame we need a law against murder. I believe that if enforced laws are necessary then society has failed.

Basically a society is a state where you give up some freedom in order to have safety. As Rosseau was talking about. So a society where you didn´t enforce laws, wouldn´t really be a society.
But a law against cell-phones really ought to be made. Preferably with death-sentences.

Most cellphone users will end up with brain cancer anyway so why take mercy on them?

Xanatic Posted Apr 21, 2001
Brain cancer is in most cases too slow working. But they don´t have to die. I would be satisfied in a tumor that would affect their speech center and make them mute. A wonderful irony in that.

You are a cruel, cruel, cruel, cruel, harsh, harsh, cruel, cruel being. I like your style.

So, what do you suggest Paul - a law against Laws, is it?
And you're right. DON'T NO FOOL GO MESSIN' WITH MY BINS!

Don't be ridiculous Dave. That would be a paradox with severe consequences. I am merely remarking that, in an ideal world, laws would not be necessary.

Yes, objects should be free from the oppression of gravity.

Well maybe, but who actually feels completely safe and secure in society? People are murdered, stolen from and violently attacked every day. Another side of safety is job security and very few people can claim to feel completely secure in their current employment. Just a few months, or even weeks, of bad business are required for huge job losses to be instigated by companies.

Of course nobody feels completely safe. It would be a very odd sort of life if there was no danger at all. Even before you leave the womb there are dangers. No other life form on the planet is safe from the threat of harm either. Some level of danger and insecurity is probably rather an important part of life. Would life have evolved without the driving force provided by, for example, predators? Life without some level of danger is almost unimaginable. We've been raised in the age of the Health and Safety Executive who probably would make it illegal for us to leave the womb if they could. I think they go too far. Danger is a part of *real life*. I'm just glad we have a few of the laws we have to make it a bit safer to walk the streets.

That's exactly my point. Its not safer for people to walk the streets with the laws. Anybody who does feel that the streets are safe is very lucky. Some parents are even stopping their children from playing outside, which surely is not a good thing, because of the violence that is going on, particularly in poorer areas.
