Nobody'll see that here. You want to put it on Ask.

God, that feels awful, doesn't it. I hate having to do that to newbies who post on old Edited Entries.

There is, nor ought there be, any backwater, no matter how well hidden, to which it is unexpected, or even unlikely, that someone, no matter whom, may find that which is therein seemingly hidden...
I always kinda thought of misc chat as more the sort of place that threads from ask get moved to, if they're really just cluttering up space...
And...
Really... this thread shoudl be in ask as its sasking a question
Some people... seem to get a bit mythed when non direct question asking threads get put into ask, whereas others, see ask as the 'main forum', and so the superhighway of conversations on site... both views are, of course, entirely plausable... though... misc chat is worefull undersubscribed I'd imagine

My noggin spins with 2legs clarity (when he expounds without the great vision of him/her who should not be spoken of)
But there is the query for me. There is ASK, where some want posers to be answered. And there is Misc Chat, where some (well, maybe only me) expect silly and without-real-substance meaning stuff to happen.
Something in the middle?

In the middle, where we can sit,
not by the side to either extreme,
to dwell in the midsts, of that which it may seem,
too far to the left, too far to the right, too high, or down too low
but here in the middle, coddled from the sides,
its the place where us middle folk go,
even if we dare,
from time to time to take a glance,
to the extremes above and below,
starboard and to port,
but in the middle its where we know,
we can wrap ourselves, in that which happens all around,
and occasionally take a careful fglance,
at the insanity which about does abound,
no gleeful extastic extasty,
not the deep forelorn pit of fear,
just a table, right here in the middle.... and a bluddy huge jug of beer. haa... those vogon-poets were lightweighst...

What we've got seems to work just fine, so I don't see any point in messing around with it, or in getting upset if a thread doesn't fit neatly into a preconceived template. If a thread offends someones eyes, hit the unsub button. It not hard.
anyone?

Yeh.... exactly; and the powers that be, whoever tha twill be, (editors/italics whatever ...) can move threads... so its not impossible to say, move an entirely irrelivent or somewaht disruptive thread out of ask to eitehr that user's personal space, or over into misc, or 'how do i', or the 'games' err whatever its called forum...
cheese? Nomrlaly I'd jump at the oppertunity......
however... I got back from an afternoon in the pub beer garden, an hour ago; and made naan bread... which I probably oughta go knock up a curry to go with, and think about cooking the naans too hmmm.... naa... strangely the cheese really won't work that well... unless! oo I could do more naan bread pizzas though, I did have cheese on toast for lunch today I'm just so cheesy...

To then be plain and clear please, ... what Forums are there?
I know of:
The Forum, where things tend to almost always devolve into gods or no gods
The ASK forum where non-posers get scowls, and things devolve
The Misc Chat, where a nearly anything-goes from the get and go is expected, and not surprisingly, things devolve
Any number of games and word-games places ... (not much devolves there)
Is there anywhere yet where someone can post a thought, a link and just give and opinion? Not just the "what news caught yer eye today", but something that new folks might see and have an opinion?

Ask is the place to go for posting general stuff. You just have to take the time to pose a question as well. I like this because it (generally) makes the conversation inclusive and open, rather than someone just pontificating (including myself there).
The main official forums are:
Ask H2G2
Games Room
Miscellaneous Chat
(Previous) Talking Points
SEx - Science Explained
C821
How do I? is meant to be in there too, but it's in cyrogenic suspension. I for one hope it will be warmed up once we move.
The Forum isn't on there because the Eds wanted all the hard out stuff away from the FP>

How did I forget the SEx forum? My apologies.

Vip Posted Jul 6, 2011
The Forum was just a private forum. It only got busy because at the time Ask was really full of mundane convos and no actual questions.

That's true, but SEx was a private forum too that got elevated status because it fitted better with the Eds idea of what should be happening onsite.
Key: Complain about this post
