Perhaps it was deemed too commercial for the House Rules.

Probably too commercial. Also, wasn't DivX developed specifically for the porn industry, or am I thinking of a different codec?

I think DivX was George Lucas' alternative to the DVD. If I recall correctly, it supported pay-to-play and had a high royalties cost, both of which contributed to its lack of market dominance.

I had heard that DivX was the microsoft name for Mpeg4, which would make a couple of the suggestions here a triffle unlikely.

Hmmmm
The DivX website (http://www.divx.com) lead me to http://www.divxnetworks.com. It seems it is an implementation of MPEG-4, but I can't see any [direct] connection to Microsoft or Lucas. (I'm sure I've heard some of my dvdphile friends connecting Lucas and DivX in the same sentence.)

Tromboneboy, can I ask what's happening with this piece are you going to rewrite it so it doesn't break the houserules, or have you decied that you can't persue it any futher? if so could you remove it from Peer Review just by clicked on the remove button next to the article on the PR homepage.
Thanks.

I'm hoping you will rewrite it to make it acceptable myself. I've only started experimenting with mpegs and such lately and I like to get whatever info I can on the subject. It's a bit over my head I guess. I'm also just curious how you managed to break the house rules with such an innocent sounding topic.

still no change (ie: still hidden)
To be fluffy or not to be fluffy, but there's nothing to be reviewed so I don't see a reason for this one to stay in PR.

I agree Bossel, I can't see much point in this being here either. The author hasn't been here in ages, as their last posts were made on the 8th of September. I think this should be moved to the entry.
