double-decker buses

Mushy Mayt.

My dad told me he was scared to sit on the top floor of a double-decker bus, because there was no driver.

I think your dad was correct, but for a different reason. On our one trip to the UK (from the US), my wife & I had travel passes that covered the Tube, trains and buses. We got pretty comfortable with the Tube and the trains, so we decided to try the bus one day - a double decker. In the first two minutes it made at least a dozen turns onto as many different streets. Without the equivalent of the Tube map, I was certain we'd never find our way back ... smiley - yikes
