There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted Jun 28, 2002
Mrs Gosho and I met online (not here), and I must say that I pretty much flew in the face of all the safety guidelines - the first time we met was at the airport here in Austin after I'd already wound up all my affairs in the UK and put my belongings on a ship bound for Houston
We're still together three years later, even with a 22-year age difference
It might be a good idea to put an announcement in 'Ask the h2g2 Community' to ask for a list of all the couples who have been (or are about to get - Shea and TJ in 8 days from now) married as a result of meeting at h2g2, so that you can link to their personal spaces.

Hee hee it's a case of not practicing what you preach I'm facing the prospect of uprooting and moving to another country as my initial contact... Scary, but... what's life without taking a few gambles?
Certainly not the kinda thing I condone of course.
Congratulations on your success story - and great idea on Ask H2G2
s off to ask :D

I gathered that by your "Mrs. Gosho" comment in the Peer Review
Is it working? The winding up PF bit?

Kate, you could always have a look through this longstanding thread:

The h2g2 relationships are listed in it already.

This is my first posting to "Peer Review". I followed the advice of the Peer Review page and have been reading a number of articles here, but I do find this one particularly interesting.
It would appear the author has considered many aspects of relationships founded on the worldwide web, including potential perils. And with the list of researchers who have met in just this way, it would also appear that this is a phenomenon many people will identify with.

Not to worry! I get called all kinds of things here.
Take plenty of to the backlog of that thread! I estimate about 1 posting in 20 will tell you what you need to know, and then you'll need the links to user names. Just ask if you need help finding them! Not all met online though, and I do know of researchers who have relationships with people they met on other sites that might not be in that thread.

Kate, things can last in Peer Review. One or two weeks of silence are nothing to worry about (but it doesn't hurt anyone if you pop it to the top occasionally. Even Italics do that)

Very valuable info there , and I'm sorry I think I'll have to do something right now...

One minor issue - you describe people initially using the internet to contact clients and Aunt Melba, and later on going on to do online chatting with random strangers. That's not really the way it actually happened: IIRC, Usenet and IRC came pretty early on in the birth of the internet, and they certainly involved their fair share of chat. Indeed, one big early (and slightly tongue-in-cheek) debate was whether sex-related usenet talk should be in soc.sex.* or rec.sex.* ...

Terrific entry - and, as you've said, it's a subject that many h2g2 Researchers can identify with very closely!
The only things I can see that are in any way wrong are minor style points: some odd uses of capital letters for words like Boy, Girl, Internet Cafe and Sociopath, and using double quotes instead of the single ones prescribed in the Writing Guidelines. I think that Bossel's suggestions for links are good ones, too. But those quibbles aside, good work!
