Jeremy (trying to find his way back to dinner) Posted May 16, 2003
I switched over to broadband (flatrated, of course) about 4 months ago and was able to cut my phone bill by half ...
It's such a relief when you don't have to care whether the machine closes all the open lines ...
... no high-rate dialers (are these a problem somewhere else too?) ...
... no more being afraid of those large downloads ...
... no more viruses or backdoor programs (thanks to Linux) ...
... no more thinking about the costs of web access ...
everybody should do it.

I did it couple years ago.
I may have no plumbing (which I haven't) but broadband is vitally important!

I've got an ever cheaper alternative - I do all my internet access (including H2G2) at work! Well I've got to keep up the Scottish reputation haven't I?

Hiya Smudger!
I'm from Edinburgh but I live in London just now. I'm half Italian, hence the Italian name - and that's kind of how I got to know Greta . My homepage explains more about me - but there's no pictures, just text. Where are you from?
(Sorry Greta - using your thread to talk to Smudger )

Hey Riccardo I thought threads were good because you could meet people on them! No problems whatsoever, of course.
To everybody, sorry I haven't been hooting much... too little time, too little energy, too much work!

...too little time, too little energy, too much work!
We have only a limited lifespan. Why do so many of us waste so much of it with work?
Broadband fever
Smudger879n Posted May 20, 2003
Ah! Well Jeremy, You will have to take that up with Greta, as we have hardly heard from her in ages?? Still I am sure that our Greta would allow work to get in the way of her social life

Smudger,
it's not always that easy. Of course most people would like to say 'I never let my job interfere with my social life', but unfortunatley partying and letting your eagle fly on saturdays won't pay the rent, won't buy food for your family, won't pay the phone and ISP bill for hootoo access, etc. ...
I had to take lengthy timeouts from hootoo myself when my job started to consume more and more time. Thanks Zarkon I could reorganize a good part of it which gave me a little time back ...
Greta: Don't worry if your job takes a lot of your time, that's normal and usual. After some 20 years in that treadmill I know what I'm talking about. Just take care that you won't wake up one day thinking 'Was that all??'

Nobody worry! I'm not letting work take over my life, I value my leisure time too much to do that. In fact, my not hooting much is mainly due to the fact that, what with pressure at work and actually having a social life, the gym, AND a novel and a script to work on, I hardly have any time to come here!
It's all good, if a bit hectic but I like it like that.

Smudger.
BTW. Jeremy, The reason that I have more time these days is that I had a bad fall at work while training, and it finished my working life. So now Im stuck in the house most days. Mind you I did cram a lot of life into my first 50 years, so its not that bad really.
